Emblematic aromas of lychee, rose and ginger abound on the nose, with white grape, aloe and juniper. These tones are intense on the palate yet they carry a slightly soapy sheen. Medium in acidity and body, the fruit flavors extend the long, spicy finish.

Gewurztraminer is a pink-skinned grape variety that produces some of the most distinctively aromatic wines in the world, in an intense style that polarizes people. Flavorful with rich aromas and distinctive notes of ripe tropical fruits, this wine can be enjoyed alone or paired with spicy and exotic cuisine, strong cheeses or desserts.Classic lychee, rosewater, nutmeg and floral notes accented by white pepper. Pale straw/yellow colour; floral, ripe peach, honey and lychee fruit aromas; off-dry, light to medium bodied, softly structured with balanced acidity, flavours of honeysuckle, rose water, pear, citrus and lychee; hints of spice on the finish.

The nose is a surprising combination of rose petal, litchi, cucumber, summer melon and mango. It is deliciously fresh on the palate with a lovely lime and lemongrass finish.

Light straw color with aromas of grapefruit peel and lychee nut on the nose which carries through to the palate. Floral, clove and melon notes round out the finish.

Our 2014 Gewürz is harvested exclusively from a single small CCOF (“California Certified Organic Farmers”) vineyard about one hour north of our home estate, located in Mendocino’s cool growing region of Potter Valley. This rugged location is the key to the great acidity and balance in our Gewürz. The unprecedented drought in California was national news and everyone seemed to talk about our weather with dire predictions for much of the year. A mild winter and spring caused early bud break, but the overall length of the growing season was similar to past years. The lack of rain did not impact our fruit due to moderated temperatures throughout the growing season and the grapes had terrific concentration and superb fruit flavors. The grapes were harvested at night and at a lower brix level to maintain the acidity in this wine. We cold fermented the juice in stainless steel tanks to preserve the crisp acidity and bright aromatics. Over the years our style with this wine has evolved, along with the name. Winemaker Kevin Hall is continuing the slightly drier style to showcase the mineral qualities of the grape, and as a result the wine is more food friendly. In the glass the 2014 has the classic floral, sweet aromas of grapefruit, stone fruits, pear, rose and strong wet stone minerality. The flavors are similar to the aromas highlighted by tropical spice and grapefruit flavors. Accolades:

Gewürztraminer is a German term that means “spicy (or perfumed) grape from the town of Traminer”. Sourced from a single vineyard, Rocky Ridge, located in the Similkameen Valley, the floral nose makes it easily recognizable. Off dry, this white wine offers a hint of nutmeg, notes of candied ginger on the palate and a white pepper spice finish. Enjoy with spicy curries, teriyaki or Thai chicken, Quiche Lorraine and strong cheeses.
