Plzen in the Czech Republic was literally born to make beer. When King Wenceslas II of Bohemia founded the city in 1295, he granted its 260 households the right to make beer. For hundreds of years, this worked great. Yet as might be expect with this many home brewers, quality varied over time. It was easy to get beer but not so easy to get good beer. In 1838, several of the more enthusiastic brewers in town declared 36 barrels undrinkable and dumped them out in front of the town hall. This drove the brewing households to join forces and collectively build a brewery -- The Citizens Brewery of Plzen. The idea was to create a state of the art brewery to put in place a series of new beer making practices that were making their way across central Europe, such as the production of pale malt. Under the main building they dug a network of ice-cooled tunnels for another new technique called laagering (from the German 'lager'- to store). Four years later they revealed a golden clear, crisp, light-bodied beer that blew the doors off the dark and cloudy beers of the time. Pilsner Urquell is still brewed in the same brewery with the same soft Plzen water, saaz hops from Zatec, Czech barley from Moravia, and the same H-strain yeast. We still germinate and malt ourselves, and continue to triple-decoct our mash over open flames. Pilsner Urquell is the World’s Original Pilsner. With aromas of fresh bread, hints of Saaz hops and honeysuckle, taste notes of caramel maltiness balanced by a distinct bitterness, and a nice creamy mouthfeel and smooth, refreshing finish, it is easy to see why the original pilsner is a great session beer. Excellent choice for craft beer and import beer drinkers looking for an authentic, easy-drinking beer. The light beer is perfect for any occasion, such as sporting events, daytime adult beverage activities, warm weather sessionabilty, barbeques, and food pairing occasions that compliment traditional European dishes, as well as neutral flavored salted snacks.

While gulping beers from tankards several stories underground in the ancient cellars of a medieval brewery in the Czech Republic, the seed of Sixpoint Crisp Lagers had taken root. Of course the Mad Scientists had no desire to simply recreate that old world flavor, but the experience itself had forever altered the vector of their formulating... When the Mad Scientists emerged from underground, the quest for a new formulation went from obsession to reality. Carlsberg Pilsner is a premium Danish lager with a 5% ABV. It's a crisp, refreshing, perfectly balanced beer that has a full flavor and hoppy aroma. Carlsberg Danish Pilsner is brewed with the principals learned from over 100 years brewing experience to produce a lager with distinctive citrus and floral hop aromas that delivers great depth of flavor, making it the perfect beer for those that value authentic and quality drinking experiences. That's why at Carlsberg we've been exporting our finest beer since 1869. Carlsberg originates from Copenhagen, Denmark. J.C Jacobsen, our founder, brewed Denmark's first ever pint using a yeast that became the basis for many modern-day imitations. We Danes love to share, it's in our nature. In fact, almost all modern-day lagers are derived from the original yeast, Saccharomyces Carlsbergensis, used to brew Carlsberg. Enjoy the perfect pint of Carlsberg at home or in the pub! Can small refinements make a big difference, and create the most balanced pilsner beer in the world? Probably.

Yaya raised a rebel who grew up to have dirt on his face, sweat on his brow, and beer in his blood. That’s why Mama’s Little Yella Pils is an uncompromising, hand crafted version of the great Pilsner beers of Bavaria and Bohemia. Unlike mass market pilsners diluted with corn and rice, Mama’s is built on pilsner and honey malt then hopped with Saaz and Aramis hops. While it’s rich with flavor, its 33 IBUs and 4.7% ABV make it a luxurious but low-dose (by Oskar Blues standards) refresher. It’s damn good, crushable beer.

Upland-Champagne-Velvet
In 1902, Walter Bruhn, the son of German immigrants, created a recipe for a new pilsener beer named Champagne Velvet. Over the next 50 years it grew to become one of Indiana’s most popular beers, a go-to for many of our grandparents and great-grandparents. It was “The Beer with the Million Dollar Flavor,” which wasn’t just marketing fluff; it was actually insured with a $1 million policy. Industrial consolidation took down this regional favorite and the recipe went missing for many years until a fan rescued the hand-written recipe from deep in a trademark portfolio. Upland reformulated the recipe using that scrap of paper and proudly brings this Midwestern legend back to life. Champagne Velvet has a refreshingly light pilsener body with some sweet complexities given off by the corn malt used in this recipe, making this the perfect lager. It’s smooth and light, but still full of flavor, the perfect everyday beer for craft beer drinkers and a step up for domestic drinkers.
