Black IPA

Wookey Jack is our first foray into the dark outer world of black IPAs. Rich dark malts and spicy rye careen into bold citrus laden hops creating a new dimension in IPA flavor. This brew has been left unfiltered and unfined to retain all of its texture and character. At 60 IBUs, Wookey Jack is gnarly on the outside yet complex and refined on the inside.

This is Joey, a slightly perturbed koala. He’s upset because he applied to be a brewer and didn’t get the job. It wasn’t that he sleeps twenty hours, he just didn’t have the right koalafications. This black IPA was brewed with Lapsang Souchong, a smoked black tea. This addition gives a smokey complexity that pairs with the tea and citrus hop notes.

Hoppy and roasty American IPA, brewed as the dark-colored counterpart to Another One (both beers incorporate the exact same kettle and dry hopping schedule). Weez presents a blend of hoppy and roasty notes on the nose, followed by hoppy resins on the tongue, and finishes with a deep roast.

Black Lantern is crafted in the style of an American IPA with an addition of rich roasted malt. It’s a medium-bodied, hop-forward black ale with bright, herbal, earthy hop aroma along with complex resinous hop and mellow malt flavor that finishes smooth. Black Lantern is a beer for the darkest of days and the blackest of nights.

Whiffs of pine and spruce lead you in to the glass, where you find bitter cocoa and candied oranges. A touch of roast permeates throughout, but the hop expression wins over in the end. Dry and lively but with a creamy feel. Enough hops to be under protest, but we rule it a home run.

A fruit cocktail of pineapple, cherry and pear hop aroma rise from this deceptively dark IPA with a little toast but no roast.

Don't let the color in this black IPA fool you. IPA first, dark beer second, this Danish ale is crafted with sparing amounts of dark malt, lending it lots of color but just a hint of roast, allowing mosaic hop-derived flavors of grapefruit, passionfruit, guava, pineapple, and herbs shine.

Getting back to our roots, our newest imperial stout Black Noise features no adjuncts, just pure stout goodness. Dark, rich, and roasty.

Freak by name, freakishly dank by nature. The perfect balance between light and dark. Aromas of grapefruit and stone fruits on one side of the state line and flavors of roasted malt and resinous hops on the other.

Just when you thought it was safe to come out of the root cellar, along comes Grainstorm, a big, wet wallop to the senses. In the glass, dark and turbulent clouds gather. A high-pressure system of pungent hops collides with a stationary front of barley, wheat, and rye. The forecast: a veritable monsoon of flavor, with surges of roasty malt, microbursts of hops, and a chance of golfball-sized hail. The extended outlook calls for unseasonably pleasant enjoyment

Our Cascadian Dark Ale features vibrant citrusy and floral American hops balanced against a complex malt profile of toasty dark malts with a hint of roasted barley. Just like an early morning surf session, once you start you keep going back.

It's a stout hops like an India Pale Ale with clear bitterness and a dry finish. The beer holds 8.5% alcohol and small 80 IBU. It is brewed on Maris Otter Malt, smoked malt, British specialty and cane sugar. In both flavor and aroma, it is characterized by one of my favorite drums: Zeus (sometimes called Columbus or Tomahawk), used in the boiler along with Czech Saaz hops and alone as a dry hollow. It is delicious to drink now while the hops are fresh, but as it is embarrassed on the bottle, it certainly has storage potential, I think.

George Costanza yearned to name his firstborn, "7" as a living tribute to no. 7 Mickey Mantle. Black IPA. Again, an american invention. This style was born at the "Vermont pub and brewery" around 1997. It could be said that this beer tries to be an hybrid between a regular IPA and a porter. The Pénombre presents a light body and well expressed tofferaction tastes. The whole is however dominated by an evident bitterness, which stays always in balance with the other tates found in the beer. In the after taste, the bitterness and hops flavours are growing slowly dut surely, sip after sip.

Back in Black is our newest year-round beer available now in six pack cans and on draft. Brewed like an American IPA but with the addition of rich dark malts this beer has all the flavor and hop character you expect with a smooth mellow finish.

Originally released a for the Chesterfield CAMRA festival. Renamed as Wild Raven in 2013 due to another beer going by the name "Raven" elsewhere The recipe for the brew came from James Kemp, who joined the team a few months ago. Previously crowned the New Zealand Home Brewing Champion in 2008 and winner of a Liberty Award, Kemp used Maris Otter, Black Patent and Chocolate malt along with Nelson Sauvin, Centennial and Sorachi hops. The beer, called Raven, has bitterness and hop character and plenty of malt flavours to give it complexity. James moved on to Buxton brewery and is now a freelance brewer
