Wine in Yamhill-Carlton District

McCrone Vineyard is located in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA on ancient marine sedimentary soils. Floral and spice focused. Tart cherry and huckleberry with generous floral notes of hibiscus and rose, touches of nutmeg and black tea.

This dry Rosé is purposely crafted from 100% whole cluster pressed Pinot Noir, hand-selected from our estate vineyards in Yamhill Carlton. The clones (828 & 777) were selected for their acidity, bright fruit characteristics and skins that extract very little color. The fruit was harvested at optimum ripeness and the berries were gently pressed, cold settled and fermented in flex tanks with selected yeast strains to enhance the unique aromatics and flavors. This barely pink wine offers aromas of rose petal, pineapple juice, tangerine and starfruit. The wine enters the palette with notes of Marcona almond and Chinese gooseberry. Cleansing bright acidity with hints of sponge cake lead to a long-lasting finish.

Dark, fathomless color. Big, brooding, blackberry-fruited nose with a touch of cocoa leaf. Concentrated mouth feel. Has real power and broad tannin shoulders. Not for the faint of heart. The tannins add grip to the very rich black fruit. The finish is blackberry with Southwest Indian spice, black pepper, and a splash of clove and Ceylon cinnamon. Classic Yamhill-Carlton Pinot noir.

This Pinot Noir from the WillaKenzie Estate displays tremendous fruit intensity, reflective of the long, warm, dry growing season in the Willamette Valley. While there was plenty of heat accumulation during the summer, cool nights aided in the retention of the natural acidity and freshness the region is known for. WillaKenzie Estate’s Terres Basses Pinot Noir offers a multi-layered and complex aromatic profile with a broad array of spices and dark fruits. The palate is dense and powerful with ample ripe tannins and respectable longevity.

WillaKenzie Estate is located within the Yamhill-CarltonAVA, a sub-appellation in the northern Willamette Valley known for producing Pinot Noirs of great depth and intensity.

Our Yamhill-Carlton Pinot Noir is a true expression of terroir, offering elegance, restraint, and through-line acidity. This red wine offers aromas of dark cherries, antique rose and earth. The palate opens with notes of red fruit and mineral, accentuated by firm acidity and a generous mid-palate.

Hirschy Vineyard is located in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA on ancient marine sedimentary soils. Floral and spice focused, with notes of huckleberry and red licorice dance with graham cracker and hints of sweet tea. Densely structured.

Our signature estate Pinot Noir is the pure expression of our organically dry-farmed Résonance Vineyard, planted on un-grafted rootstock in 1981. Our Pinot Noir grapes are handpicked just steps from The Winery and hand-sorted upon arrival. During elevage, we control the juice with a light touch honed over 170 years of winemaking in Burgundy, boosting each vintage to achieve its most natural elegance and complexity. Résonance Vineyard Pinot Noir unveils the immense character, the “somewhereness” of this original site, within the Yamhill-Carlton AVA.

This is the flagship bottling of Soter Vineyards, named after the property where the winery, vineyard, and tasting room are located. Mineral Springs Ranch ("MSR") is a 240-acre Biodynamic farm and vineyard in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA in the heart of the Willamette Valley. MSR has an extremely compelling confluence of prime exposure, location and uniform, well-drained sedimentary soils. The vineyard is planted to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and includes a variety of clones among these several heirloom selections. The property is flanked to the west by the coast range, which offers a natural weather barrier and creates a relatively dry and warm microclimate. Together, these elements create the ideal situation to utilize summer’s long daylight hours for even ripening and establish the foundation for peak expression.

Yamhill, Oregon- Made exclusively from grapes grown on estate vineyards in the new Yamhill-Carlton District AVA. Deep, dark aromas of black cherry fruit, faint herbal/floral notes, and a distinct underlying minerality. Finishes with a light touch of oak that allows the fruit to shine.

Tanager Vineyard is located in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA on ancient marine sedimentary soils. Floral and spice focused, red and blue fruits of raspberry, blueberry and cranberry dance with firmer tannin structure.

Shea Vineyard is located in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA on ancient marine sedimentary soils. Floral and spice focused. Blue and red fruits of blueberry and raspberry with delicate anise and cola notes. Opulent texture and a luscious mouthfeel.

The Savoya vineyard is located in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA, 3.5 miles north of the town of Carlton. The whole vineyard was planted between 1999 and 2003, with the .5 acre of Cruz Clone (548) Chardonnay planted in 2002. Savoya is located at 350-450 feet elevation, on a SE inclination. The parent material is ancient marine sediments and the soil series is Wellsdale. The vineyard is owned and was planted by Ken and Karen Wright.

WillaKenzie Estate is located in the heart of Oregon’s Northern Willamette Valley, the Yamhill-Carlton AVA. Our founder established WillaKenzie in 1991, inspired by the dynamic rolling hills that reminded him of his Burgundian roots. The Estate is named for the marine sedimentary soil series on which the vineyard is planted, in keeping with tradition that great wines reflect a true sense of place. The signature of WillaKenzie Estate is its range of benches, ridgelines, elevations, slopes, exposures, and clonal plantings, making WillaKenzie one of the most diverse estates in the Willamette Valley. As the first LIVE certified winery, WillaKenzie remains committed to its sustainable practices by preserving the biodiversity of the land. Kiana is located on the southern ridgeline of the WillaKenzie Estate, with a gently southeast facing slope, and elevation ranging between 460’ and 590’. The terroir on this part of the Estate produces Pinot Noir with opulence offering both red and dark fruit characteristics.

Our 2013 Viognier from Deux Vert Vineyard in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA represents what we love about Viognier... a lush aromatic nose tempered by lean acidity and minerality. We think what makes this Viognier unique is that it is from a single vineyard in the cool climate Willamette Valley and that we ferment it entirely in small lot stainless steel drums, allowing us to increase complexity by using different yeasts. Wine Spectator has rated a prior vintage of our Viognier a 90.

Planted across from the winery in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA, Stermer Vineyard has been farmed organically since being planted in 1997. With Willakenzie marine sedimentary soils composed of a thin layer of silty-clay loam atop sandstone, the wines from this site are often full-bodied with prominent cherry, spice and earth notes. The nose of this Pinot Noir shows lavender, strawberries, and black cherry, accented by deeper anise, peppercorn and cinnamon notes. The palate is medium bodied, textured and round. The finish is long and marked by sweet fruit and cocoa flavors.

Though still rare, Auxerrois seems to have found a good home in Oregon, as this young wine clearly demonstrates. Crisp apple, juicy nectarine, pink grapefruit and Meyer lemon components come together seamlessly, bound with snappy, refreshing, mineral-driven acidity. Planted in 2009, the one acre of Auxerrois wines are situated on the picturesque Savannah Ridge estate vineyard in the heart of Yamhill-Carlton AVA. Established in 2001, Carlton Cellars has been striking a balance of beauty and harmony with the land. Vineyard to glass, we have carefully crafted this wine for your senses and palate.

Abbott Claim Vineyard is located in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA on ancient marine sedimentary soils. Floral and spice focused. Tart cherry and raspberry with earthy and umami notes. Spiced with notes of cinnamon and anise.

Our Estate Riesling from vineyards directly in front of our winery includes the original 1979 planting. High sun exposure and unique soils yield an intensely perfumed and expressive wine exhibiting pure varietal character. Aromas of jasmine flower and marmalade lead to flavors of stone fruits and a pleasing minerality. The fresh acidity and long finish mean you can enjoy watching this wine develop for years.
