David-&-Nadia-Sadie-Pinotage
Planted on the highest slopes of the Paardebosch farm, in the Paardeberg, these dry-land farmed bush wines were planted in the 1990’s. Starting every season with the harvesting of Pinotage, these early ripening grapes allow for great freshness to be achieved as it escaped the heat waves of the Swartland during the rest of harvest. Long, but delicate extraction during fermentation and then matured for only eleven months in older French oak barrels.

Grenache – Syrah – Mourvedre blend – commonly known by the acronym GSM – are the particular specialty of the southern Rhone Valley in France. GSM wines, which have been readily adopted by the New World, are rich, full bodied and leathery, and are characterized by flavors of dark fruit and spice. Grenache, which contributes spice, red fruit and alcohol to the blend, where as Mourvedre, gives tannins, color and length to the wine and Syrah gives its structure and dark fruit. Only part of the blend is aged in oak so the bright red fruit comes through but it is not jammy. A definite 'every day' kind of wine.

Riebeek-Cellars-Chenin-Blanc
As the unofficial drink of the Riebeek Valley, the Riebeek Chenin Blanc is the perfect every day wine that offers uncomplicated quality for the novice and connoisseur alike. Packed with upfront tropical fruit, the nose charms with an abundance of guava and gooseberries. The pallets follows through with fruit flavours, balanced by a crisp acid to ensure a fresh and fruity style of wine. Grapes came from both bosstok and trellised vines with some of the vineyards as old as 46 years. Fermentation was done at lower than usual temperatures to capture the fresh fruit flavours. Very accessible and suited to almost every occasion, the Riebeek Chenin Blanc never disappoints.
Boekenhoutskloof Syrah

Boekenhoutskloof-Syrah
The complex nose offers a brooding compote of dark berry fruit, black olives, perfume and spice. The blackberries, young berries, brambles, and violets of the nose follow through onto a full, round palate with intense notes of allspice, liquorice and black pepper. The mid-palate is concentrated and focused, yet austere and lithe at the same time. The wine is savoury, almost Rhône-like in style with integrated acidity and firm, fine-grained tannins to balance, offering structure and great ageability. The spicy finish endures with hints of cloves, nutmeg and cardamom and subtle garrigue nuances.

Kolbroek-Syrah
Inspiration for this name comes from a breed of local pigs in South Africa and “Kolbroek” in Afrikaans, is my mother tongue. This Syrah might have the name of a pig, however it can be as elegant as a gorgeous woman walking down Loop Street in high heels. Kolbroek consists of 2 parcels on shale and gravel soils which complement each other well when blended.

Mullineux-Schist-Chenin-Blanc
Grapes for the Schist Chenin come from two parcels of Chenin Blanc planted in the stony Shale and Schist based soils of the Kasteelberg, aged 35 and 39 years old. These are the parcels of Chenin that gives the best expression of the Kasteelberg’s terroir – density and structure – but with a decent balance of acidity. Lemon-straw in colour, this wine has a nose of ripe citrus fruits, cream and cloves. The palate is full and broad with a creamy texture, great structure and a fresh, clove-like finish. Best served at about 12 °C, this wine will show optimally if decanted when drunk within the first 3 years after bottling

Mullineux-Schist-Syrah
Grapes for the 2015 Mullineux Schist Syrah were from a single parcel of sustainably farmed 19-year-old vines planted in the stony Shale and Schist soils of the Mullineux farm, Roundstone, on the Kasteelberg. This parcel of Syrah gives the best expression of the schist terroir – density and structure. Whole bunches are put into open-top 500L French oak barrels and foot stomped to release some juice. Fermented with indigenous yeasts and left on the skins for four weeks, with pigeage once per day. The Syrah is aged twelve months in 500L French oak barrels, 25% new, and then an additional nine months in 2nd fill foudre. 10 months of aging in bottle before release. ABV 13.5%, pH 3.78. 434 cases produced.
