Grandpa Cha Cha's Home Style Wine is soft to the palate and enjoys an elegant balance of the softness of a red Zinfandel, blended with the fruitiness and tannins of a full-bodied Merlot. The wine is made with a combination of Primitivo granpes and Negromaro grapes, both from the Puglia region of Southern Italy. The Promitivo grape, from Italy, is the sister grape to the California red zinfandel. The combined taste of these grapes is the closest thing to the ""old country"" Elegante grapes, which are extremely hard to find these days and were used when Grandpa Ciarcia first started making his homemade wine. ohn "Cha Cha" Ciarcia has been on Mulberry Street in New York's Little Italy his entire life and has held the title "The Unofficial Mayor of Little Italy" for over 30 years now. Blend: 50% Montepulciano, 50% Nero di Troia Inherently a highly aromatic red grape, Nero di Troia thrives in sandy soils of the Gravina area in upper, inland Puglia. Sandy soils and high elevation (600 meters a.s.l.) intensify the aromatic profile of this rosato, building a robust red berry and cherry profile. Expect more of a commanding structure and defined textural elements on the palate.

Grapes: Primitivo Production: manual harvest form old vineyard. Skin maceration 15 days; 24 months aging in big barrel (1000 gallons) of Slavonian oak plus at least 12 months bottle. Color: dark ruby red with violet highlights that, after ageing, turn on garnet red. Bouquet: intense, resolute but delicate with hints of ripe fruit, prunes, black cherry and delicate nuances of vanilla and toasted almonds. Taste: vigorous, strong, finely persistent and references of liquorice and hazelnuts; good structure with a fruity and persistent finish. Food pairing: excellent with roasted and braised meats but also with well aged cheese. Alcohol content: 14% by vol. Total acidity: 5.5-6 gr/lt Best served at: 18° C – 65° F

The Cantele estate is a third-generation family-owned and run winery founded by the current generation's grandparents, immigrants from the north who settled in Puglia after WWII.
