Wine in Maconnais

Pouilly-Fuissé is one of the most popular as well as most prestigious wines from southern Burgundy. This fine 2012, with its pale yellow color and emerald highlights is naturally unctuous due to the low yields of the vintage. There are beautiful white fruit aromas that mix very-well with fine almond notes. There are also Muscat-like aromatics that can be smelt and which linger in the mouth. A wine to be savored while young with lovely minerality and focused finish.

The wine shows bright white flower, apple and citrus aromas and bracing, fresh, clean fruit on the palate, with mineral notes. This is a classic expression of Chardonnay from this appellation. Pair this wine with poultry, shellfish, grilled firm-fleshed fish such as swordfish, and salads.

A beautifully ripe wine, this is textured and packed with fruit at the same time. It shows a classic mineral character of Pouilly-Fuissé along with generous yellow and citrus fruitiness. Produced by the Dutron family, who have been growers since the 19th century, this wine could age.

Auvigue Macon Villages is a delicious example of beautifully made Chardonnay — dry, with some minerally tones and touches of grapefruit, lemon. Remember, any French Burgundy is never to be confused with a lot of the California style of white which is more heavily oaked. French Burgundies are subtle, more discreet and often go better with food.

After 2 or 3 years of aging, other aromas will develop allowing this chardonnay to be paired with a more sophisticated cuisine.

The medium-bodied 2012 Denis Dutron Mâcon-Fuissé offers everything classic white Burgundy from the fabled Mâconnais has to offer. It begins the enchantment with a brilliant, sun-kissed robe, but even better is the wine’s enticing bouquet of freshly picked mountain apples, tropical fruits and oven baked bread. In the mouth, creamy, buttery flavors meld beautifully with the wine’s pure, natural fruit. Pinpoint precision and a racy refreshing minerality round out the wine’s palate appeal and provide for a clean lingering finish. For optimal enjoyment, we suggest a moderate chill (about 40° F) before serving, though many will prefer this excellent Mâcon-Fuissé at a more ambient temperature, so as you like it.

Coming from the Chardonnay grape, this is a rich and powerful wine, pleasant in the early years, it will develop aromas of honey and gunflint as and when it ages. It goes perfectly with fish, frogs, shells and all the meat in white sauce.

The nose explodes with aromas of citrus, peach and apricot followed by a wonderful balance between acidity and sweetness with a marked freshness. The structure and slightly spicy flavor of Les Charmes makes it unique among Mâconnais wines. The wine is still veryaromatic and very fresh after the ageing.

The Chardonnay grapes are hand-harvested and then quickly and gently pressed in a state-of-the-art pneumatic press, in order to extract all the fruit and aromas while avoiding any bitterness. After 2 days of cold stabilization and a light clearing of the juice (débourbage), Touzot slowly ferments his Mâcon Villages in temperature-controlled, stainless-steel cuves for 10 to 15 days. The wine is aged on its lees in tanks and undergoes full malolactic fermentation in January. It is then bottled in April. The wine is a text book example of Mâcon Villages: a lively bouquet of green apples and flowers (acacia is notable) and crisp, persistent, juicy green apple and melon Chardonnay fruit.

Solutre is a very specific and famous area in Pouilly Fuisse and produces some of the best wine from this area. This wine is no exception. Lite gold and clear, this Chardonnay wine has flavors of lemon, apple, honey and minerals. Lite oak, medium acidity and body make this a very pleasant apertif or match for chicken or fish.
