In the Valley we use the slopes of the Obarenes mountains to grow the garnacha grapes used in our reds. They are vineyards which ripen well due to the exposure to the sun, but in the case of the Rosado, we prefer to plant on the other side, furthest away from the sun, with fresher air which helps us to preserve the notes of fresh, sharp fruit. A very light, bright colour, mainly pale orange-tinged salmon pink. In this harvest we see a return to very fresh, acidic fruit which dominates the whole sensory profile of the wine. On the nose a complex aroma of white-fleshed fruit with stones. In the aftertaste the olfactory notes are transformed into something finer and more complex in which, as well as the previously mentioned aromas, we can detect lychees, apricot and faint reminders of the bakery shop. In the mouth it proves deeply attractive since, although the tart fruit is still to the fore, the overall taste is softened by the fine, elegant, well-integrated lees. It is a wine with a long finish which combines sweetness, freshness and acidity.

My lovely Pink Moscato is made mainly with white, wonderfully aromatic Moscato grapes but I add a little touch of Tempranillo to them. The result is what I call a blush sparkler. As you pour it out, you’ll pick up the aroma of flowers and tropical fruits; and to taste, I think you’ll be pleased with its delicate fruity sweetness. Chateau Coussin is one of three Estates owned by the Sumeire family. It is their flagship and is located in the village of Trets which is at the foothills of the Sainte Victoire mountains near Aix en Provence. The Sumeire family have traced their ancestors in Trets all the way back to the year 1500. They have been wine merchants for five generations and in 1968, when Elie Sumeire became the latest successor to the family business, the focus was shifted from being wine merchants to cultivating the family estates. The soils of the Sainte Victoire Cotes de Provence sub-appellation are composed of clay and limestone that are unique in their origin from ancient stony alluvial deposits from mountain torrents. These soils are known locally as Puyloubier. Viticulture has been present in this area dating back 2,600 years ago to the ancient Greeks. While ancient traditions abound, the winery is a state of the art facility and every attention is given to preserving the bright and aromatic aspects of the spectacular fruit that Chateau Coussin produces. This fresh, fruity rose is made from Grenache Noir, Cinsault, Carignan and Syrah grapes grown on gravely slopes near the Ceze river of the beautiful Gard region of the South of France. Experienced winemaker Phillippe Amploux is passionate about Grenache in this region and he has made this wine in a modern style with temperature controlled fermentation for maximum freshness and summer fruit flavours.

Frederic Gueguen and his wife and Celine (Brocard) Gueguen are the team behind the small family Domaine Geugeun, located in the Chablis. Both Frederic and Celene were winemakers in Chablis before founding their own estate; Frederic at Jean Durup (his uncle) and Jean-Marc Brocard (his father in law) and Celene also at Brocard. In addition to Chablis, they produce other white, rose and red wines from their organically farmed estate, all very small production and unique. The Pinot Noir fruit for their rose comes from 30 year-old vines planted to limestone soils dating from the Late Jurassic period. Fermented and aged on the lees in stainless steel, this is a super fresh rose with a beautiful pale-pink color. Bright strawberry, floral and mineral notes lead in the nose, followed by a juicy, minerality-laced palate and a finish that lingers with flavors of cherries. Best enjoyed when young and fresh and recommended with grilled sea bass with fennel, langoustines with paprika, spicy dishes, and barbecue.

Tasting Notes: This refreshing, very fruity rosé will seduce you with its bouquet of ripe red fruits. It’s easy to drink, fresh and particularly well-balanced in structure and aromas. Varietal Composition: 100% Pinot Noir The Pinot Noir is relatively fragile and demanding grape variety and needs a well drained ground and a temperate climate. That’s why it flourishes on the chalky-clay slopes around Sancerre. Elaboration: “Les Baronnes” Sancerre rosé is a bled rosé. Juice is obtained by draining (“bleeding”) vats of Pinot Noir juice after 48 hours of cold maceration. The alcoholic fermentation is conducted in thermo-regulated stainless steel tanks (16 -18°C) followed by 4 to 5 months of maturation on its fine lees in order to have longer fermentations and more intense aromas. For ten generations now the Bourgeois family has devoted its passion and values to Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir, becoming Sancerre’s most well-known producer. The company is now led by the current generation of the family – Jean-Marie and Remi Bourgeois. The winery and family base is the village of Chavignol, and Domaine holdings can be found on a mosaic of plots throughout Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé. Each plot is isolated and worked in respect of its origin to reveal, in the most precise and true way, the expression of its terroir, whether we are talking Kimmeridgian marls, flint, or limestone clay soils. We see this expressed in a dizzying array of bottlings, many of which are amongst the most sought after of their kind in the Loire each year.

Cabernet-Sauvignon, Mourvèdre, Grenache, Rolle A blend of great southern varietals, alongside Cabernet-Sauvignon, make for an authentic “gourmet” rosé. Colour: Lovely pale lychee pink.
