Oldenburg-Vineyards-Rhodium-Red-Blend
The Oldenburg Vineyards Rhodium has a radiant, carmine colour. Blackcurrants, herbs and aromatic wood smoke mark the nose. This is followed in the mouth by ripe raspberries and caramel giving the wine a great finesse. The tannins are already accessible making the wine smooth and fleshy. Rhodium is a very rare metal. South Africa produces most of the world’s production. It is used in premium jewellery and as a catalyst for processes which are essentially sustainable. Rhodium embodies the attributes of this wine: it’s of South African origin, very low production and premium orientation. The Rhodium is a blend of Merlot (53%), Cabernet Franc (40%) and Malbec (7%)

Mullineux-Schist-Syrah
Grapes for the 2015 Mullineux Schist Syrah were from a single parcel of sustainably farmed 19-year-old vines planted in the stony Shale and Schist soils of the Mullineux farm, Roundstone, on the Kasteelberg. This parcel of Syrah gives the best expression of the schist terroir – density and structure. Whole bunches are put into open-top 500L French oak barrels and foot stomped to release some juice. Fermented with indigenous yeasts and left on the skins for four weeks, with pigeage once per day. The Syrah is aged twelve months in 500L French oak barrels, 25% new, and then an additional nine months in 2nd fill foudre. 10 months of aging in bottle before release. ABV 13.5%, pH 3.78. 434 cases produced.

An intriguing blend of old bush vine chenin blanc that gives weight and vibrant acidity to the wine, with 16% old vine clairette that adds an aromatic lift and 8% younger viognier that has had a period of skin contact to add additional flavour complexity and palate weight. The wines rich texture is further enhanced by extended aging in old oak barrels on the lees. This wine has the body to be a superb accompaniment for barbecued or fried fish and white meats.

Craven-Wines-Faure-Vineyard-Stellenbosch-Pinot-Noir
Pinot Noir was the first wine we made back in 2013 from grapes from Jeanine's family farm in Faure. It is a great grape to work with, showing site more than most varieties. In the cellar we push the de-stemmer aside and ferment this wine 100% whole bunch. Fruit is picked by hand and lightly foot stomped in open top fermenters to get some juice. From there it is lightly pumped over one-two times a day to quite simply move the juice around. We don't aim to over extract as want to keep as many whole bunches and berries intact. 2014 was on skins/stems for around 10 days and drain and pressed to old barrels for 10 months.

Grapes for the Schist Chenin come from two parcels of Chenin Blanc planted in the stony Shale and Schist based soils of the Kasteelberg, aged 35 and 39 years old. These are the parcels of Chenin that gives the best expression of the Kasteelberg’s terroir – density and structure – but with a decent balance of acidity. Lemon-straw in colour, this wine has a nose of ripe citrus fruits, cream and cloves. The palate is full and broad with a creamy texture, great structure and a fresh, clove-like finish. Best served at about 12 °C, this wine will show optimally if decanted when drunk within the first 3 years after bottling
Klein Constantia Sauvignon Blanc

Klein-Constantia-Sauvignon-Blanc
A great deal of attention has been placed on expressing the Klein Constantia style in this wine. It consists of a blend of various parcels from the estate, each kept separate throughout the winemaking process. Finally, they are carefully blended together to create a perfect representation of the unique Klein Constantia terroir. Fresh and subtly aromatic, this wine exhibits the typical Sauvignon Blanc characteristics of gooseberry and citrusy lemon and lime on the nose. A hint of clove comes through and is underpinned by passionfruit and grapefruit aromas.
