Blended from 85 percent Semillon grapes from Bordeaux and 15 percent orange peels from Spain and Haiti, Lillet Blanc is an aromatic wine that's the perfect apéritif for any occasion. First produced in 1872, this golden-colored French wine was the harmonious blend of an idea from the Lillet brothers and some of the finest fruits from across the globe. The result is a flowery and fruity aroma that lends itself to a diverse mix of flavors. If only most brothers could put their minds to such good use instead of fighting! Full and fleshy on the tongue, Lillet Blanc offers a mishmash of tastes including candied oranges, honey and pine resin. At 17 percent ABV, it's a bit stronger than most wines, but without being classified as a fortified wine. Lillet Blanc is the classy drink that many people don't know exists. It's an excellent choice for a pre-dinner beverage, making a toast or paired with brunch. Drinking it on the rocks can bring out all the exotic fruits that go into its production, while an orange garnish adds a splash of color to the mix. While Lillet Blanc is terrific on the rocks, the Vesper is a real show stopper. Made with gin, vodka and Lillet Blanc, it's the preferred beverage of James Bond in both books and film. It's not guaranteed to turn you into a suave secret agent, but at least you can try your hand at the accent. Buy Lillet Blanc online at a great price through Drizly to enjoy a glass of this great tasting aperitif.

Chateau-Haut-Brion-Pessac-Leognan
Jean de Pontac began constituting the Haut-Brion vineyard, in the Graves region, in 1525. His descendants went on to produce “New French Claret”, the precursor of today’s great red wines. Their efforts enabled Arnaud III de Pontac to sell his wine under the estate’s name as early as 1660. It gained a fine reputation and enormous success in London. The first of the Bordeaux great growths was born! Haut-Brion’s history has been marked by many famous men: Count Joseph de Fumel (Field Marshal, Governor of the Province of Guyenne, and Mayor of Bordeaux), Talleyrand (Foreign Minister of Napoleon I, Emperor of France) and, more recently, C. Douglas Dillon (American ambassador to France and US Secretary of the Treasury during the Kennedy administration). In 1961, Haut-Brion was the first of the great growths to use stainless steel fermentation vats, and continues to be in the forefront of innovation thanks to the meticulous selection of the ideal clones for each grape variety used at the estate. Through the centuries, the owners and managers of Haut-Brion have been obsessed with perpetuating the château’s reputation for quality. Classified a First Growth in 1855, Haut-Brion has done everything possible ever since then to maintain its standing.

Chateau-Recougne-Bordeaux-Superieur
This well-known Bordeaux Superieur, which has a fabulous reputation for aging 20-30 years in certain vintages, comes from proprietor Xavier Milhad. The 2012, a blend of 78% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, has a dense ruby/plum color and attractive, juicy blackcurrant fruit. Supple, round and generous, this is an over-achiever and a sleeper of the vintage. Drink it over the next 5-10 years, although I wouldn’t be surprised if it lasts longer, given the fact that I’ve had the 1953 and 1955 in the last five years and both were still in great shape.

The meticulously tended vineyards of Bordeaux flank the Gironde Estuary which empties into the sea along France’s Atlantic coast. This is the home of some of the world’s most renown red grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. For centuries the blending of these varieties has evolved into a skilled art form where both man and nature play a part in the creation in elegant, full bodied wines with spicy dark fruit aromas and a rich, silky texture. Clove and dried fruits on the nose. Blackcurrant with notes of cherry lead way to toasty smoky layers that last. Pair with roast lamb with garlic and rosemary or a spread of hard sheep cheeses.

Château Haut Biraud has a beautiful ruby color. Bouquet is alluring, and reveals red fruits aromas, like morello cherry. Cabernet brings a long finish and perfectly fits the fruity Merlot flavors once the blending is complete. Château Haut Biraud is a very natural, pure, organic wine that makes a lovely food and wine pairing. For instance, white meat, poultry in sauce with mushrooms, or grilled beef will match perfectly with our Château Haut Biraud.

In addition to our always impressive old vine block of Merlot, we were particularly impressed with the quality of our Cabernet Franc in 2015. In this fully ripe vintage it adds a gravelly minerality to Merlot’s ample fruit. The supple wine is both intense and graceful with an opulent purple color. It swirls with rich aromas and flavors of dense jammy red fruit mixed with blackberry. Those meld with nutmeg, clove, black pepper and insinuations of vanilla bean. The refined, velvety tannins create a succulent mouthfeel with some hints of toast and smoky, sweet oak to the long, luxurious finish. This wine will be charming and fruity in its youth but will surely improve in the cellar.

2014 gave us an exceptionally long growing season, lending our wine a deep complexity and layers of fruit and savory earth. Vibrant acid adds a refreshing, food-friendly finish and ensures that it will stay bright for years to come. It opens with a dark reddish-purple hue and aromas of ripe cherry and brown spice. Rich and medium-bodied, this blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon & Cabernet Franc combines mouth-filling flavors of cherry and blackberry with notes of cinnamon, licorice and sweet herbs for a balanced and well-integrated taste. Linear acidity with succulent fruit flavors for a long, silky finish.

Cru-La-Maqueline-Bordeaux
"Among my many passions, two have a particular place in my heart – wine and horses. The moment I first saw Cru La Maqueline in 2006, I fell in love. The huge fields surrounding the buildings make this the perfect spot both for growing vines and breeding horses; that’s why I was happy to invest – and to come and live here." - Philippe Castel It’s quite normal to see wine classified as a ‘cru’; it’s somewhat more unusual to see the name applied to a property, particularly in Bordeaux. This is a French blend of Cabernet, Merlot, and Petite Verdot. This was a soft and young Bordeaux with firm tannins and a robust backbone. Choke cherries, crab apples, blueberries, and mulberries made this come alive. Have this with a sour cream crab dip, pasta puttanesca, or bruschetta.
