Chateau-Lafleur-Pomerol-2010
Deep plum, purple color. Gorgeous perfume on the nose of earthy, tobacco, plum, black cherry and floral notes. Full-bodied, with racy, intense acidity and tannins. Powerful and layered, with a subtle fruit and long finish.
Chateau Recougne Bordeaux Superieur

Chateau-Recougne-Bordeaux-Superieur
This well-known Bordeaux Superieur, which has a fabulous reputation for aging 20-30 years in certain vintages, comes from proprietor Xavier Milhad. The 2012, a blend of 78% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, has a dense ruby/plum color and attractive, juicy blackcurrant fruit. Supple, round and generous, this is an over-achiever and a sleeper of the vintage. Drink it over the next 5-10 years, although I wouldn’t be surprised if it lasts longer, given the fact that I’ve had the 1953 and 1955 in the last five years and both were still in great shape.

Chateau-La-Gravette-de-Certan-Pomerol
La Gravette, the second wine of Vieux Château Certan, is named after a parcel of vines located between Certan and Le Pin. 30% of VVC's crop is designated for La Gravette-mostly the younger vines and the Cabernets. 2013 has more vieilles vignes in his blend. Th ewine has a fresh, vibrant nose with aromas of autumn fruit and a hint of smoke. The palate is soft and fruity with great balance and a silky texture. This is a wine to be enjoyed young, to best appreciate its lovely fruit character, and served lightly chilled. A very pretty Pomerol.

Grapes are vinified batch by batch, in oak or stainless steel vats, then aged for 18 months in oak barrels (33% new). The wine is fined traditionally, using fresh egg white. This vintage was bottled on a fruit day according to the lunar calendar, to allow the wine to express itself fully.

Almost entirely from Merlot, this wine is packed with wood as much as fruit. The wine has a smoky, burnt character that will need to disappear to allow the black fruits to come through.

The Pueyos follow traditional vinification techniques. After a 3 day cold maceration, fermentation takes place in both cement tanks and stainless steel tanks. Either way, temperatures are closely monitored so the fermentation proceeds at a controlled pace with maximum temperatures reaching 28 degrees Celsius. The “cuvaison” (fermentation + maceration) usually lasts between 15 and 20 days. Closely monitoring the temperature during fermentation helps avoid extracting the harsher, more bitter tannins that can appear if the temperature gets too high. Half of the wine is aged in barrels for 18 months following fermentation. Only 25% new barrels and 25% one-year-old barrels are used each year, to avoid overwhelming the fruit. The second part of the cuvée is aged in cement tanks. The two parts of the wine are ultimately blended, then fined with egg whites before bottling. The composition of this most prestigious of the wines of this cellar is generally on the order of 60% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine is marked by a vibrant ruby/garnet color married to a richly spicy nose with hints of tobacco and coffee in the background; the flavors are dominated by red currant, cassis, and raspberry; the texture is silky and the wine is smooth and generous on the palate; the subtle tannins have grip but are graceful making this wine particularly welcoming over the near term. Approximately 2400 bottles are shipped by us annually for the US market. Organic.

Petit-Cantenac-Saint-Emilion-Grand-Cru
The colour shows a deep dark red which is marked by its’ beautiful Cabernet character, complete with fresh, lush rich notes of black plums, cassis, cherry, raspberry, figs, and fine leather, with further hints of liquorice, spice and soft vanillary new oak. On the palate, it is full-bodied with a pleasant attack of fine soft tannins and an aromatic evolution that spreads satisfyingly tight across the palate and becomes more defined as the wine lingers in the mouth. It is savoury, delicious and well-made wine, quite forward in style, with an elegant and rounded, supple blackberry and plum finish that displays good restraint and poise. Drink 2015-2020.

Chateau-Piney-Saint-Emilion-Grand-Cru
Very winey, with a saturated, sappy feel as kirsch, blackberry preserves and blueberry coulis notes tumble around, while the frame of charcoal, smoldering tobacco and licorice root keeps them penned together. The tannin structure is significant, but very refined, and that should carry this through extended cellaring while the aromatics and mid-palate develop harmony. Best from 2016 through 2030.
