Washington's new superstar grape makes a superstar wine. We were stopped in our tracks last week by a terrific wine from a little known producer, the 2015 Hence Cellars Petit Verdot. Impenetrable dark ruby to black color. Mocha, red currant and white pepper spice aromas. Rich and dense on the palate with layers of dark fruit enhanced by lively acidity and supported by dense yet smooth tannins. This wine is simply gorgeous and a steal at this price. 93-94 Arnie points.

Our Petit Verdot boasts notes of blueberry, blackberry, and mocha that lead into an elegant finish with smooth rounded tannins. The fruit for our Petit Verdot is generally harvested in September with an average Brix of 26.0. After 7-9 days of fermentation on the skins, the resulting wine is pressed and finishes fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The wine is aged on new and used French and American oak for 5 months.

Dark, inky and unctuous, our Petit Verdot exudes a pronounced brambly character and notes of cassis, black cherries, earthy seasoned wood and fragrant baking spices. The palate has flesh and weight with bold, persistent flavors.
