Friulano

Friuli Venezia Giulia, the northeast corner of Italy, is home to great aromatic whites. The light, gravely soil of the western part of Friuli is perfect for producing light, aromatic, crisp white wines. This Friulano is clean with a zesty white grapefruit flavor, and pairs well with grilled fish, green vegetables and salad.

Grown on our 100% organic and biodynamic estate vineyards stewarded by our family for four decades. We planted 2.5 acres of Tocai Friulano at our warmer Johnson School vineyard in 2004. The esoteric grape of Tocai Friulano is also known as Sauvignon Vert, cousin to much more prolific Sauvignon Blanc and it’s a quirky varietal we love. The wine is an aromatic treat with peaches, mineral, citrus and a hint of spice. The rich, dry palate exhibits honeysuckle and cool melon and finishes with nicely zippy acids. A perfect wine partner for shellfish and curry. Or it’s delightful on its own. Let your quirky flag fly!

All whites are vinified the same way. After destemming, the grapes are put in oak vats, where they macerate on the skins without temperature control. Maceration continues until the sugars are exhausted (typically more than 30 days). The juice is then racked and left on the lees in 25 to 35 hl casks for about 36 months. Additional rackings occur if necessary.

The EU says we're not supposed to call this Tocai Friulano anymore, but that's what it is. You'll find terrific aromas and flavors of stone fruits, honeydew melon and citrus with complex accents of almond paste, cardamom and lychee fruits. Nicely rich and full in the mouth, there's fine acidity on the back with lingering notes of tropical fruit, spice, and lemon peel on the finish. A terrific wine with fish and poultry (especially with fennel) or to just sip when you're looking for something different.

The wine has a light straw with hints of green color. Highlighting the classic green almond note of Friulano. Peach skin, ripe strawberries (yes, strawberries in white wine!). Ripe, medium bodied Friulano with brisk acidity, reconfirming the flavors of green almond, peach and apricot.

Straw yellow with greenish highlights when young. A penetrating fragrance of spring flowers introduces the distinct note of almonds typical of the variety, which is echoed on the dry, full-bodied palate with its rounded flavour and long aromatic length.

Friuli, Veneto, Italy- This fine, delicate white, with hints of almond and violet along with complex fruit flavors of peach and apricot, delivers amazing fruit intensity. There is a light hint of acidity to further accentuate the full, fat, rounded body. Goes well with lean appetizers (Elegant, Peach, Almond, Full-bodied)

White-wine vinification and aged in stainless steel. Fragrance and elegance in a bouquet where notes of mountain meadow flowers and fresh almonds emerge. Remarkable structure and a lingering persistence.

A typical wine from the region of Friuli. Dry, dulcet, nicely balanced, it has a pleasing yellow-straw colour with golden reflections. Azienda Agricola Dario Prinčič is located in the village of Oslavia, just north of the town of Gorizia, and a few steps from the border with Slovenia. Ten hectares densely planted form the property, with almost all the vineyards with a Southeast exposure. The land is very steep, the soil is clay and sandstone and everything is done by hand. The Friulano is an historical wine, all along called Tocai and that  has always been the wine of the Friulan people. Aromatic, rich in structure, full and balanced. Its main characteristics are to be found in its bitter almond scent and in its balanced acidity. It ages well transforming its original fruity aromas into other more complex and full aromas: in the best vintages it has no rivals for quality.
