This wine comes from the vineyards of Monforte d’Alba. The plot has a south-southwest exposure, and the carefully selected grapes give the Dolcetto d’Alba a fresh taste and good structure. It is a wine that is best when consumed young, however, its rich aromas are maintained with age which allows this Dolcetto to be appreciated even 2 years after bottling.

Violet-ruby in the glass, with intense arromas of pulpy cherry flesh, this wine has accompanying flavors of blackberries, almonds, and cloves that mingle well with sturdy tannins and the acidity expected of any self-respecting Italian red. Brovia does not exploit his Dolcetto to make additional cash as his Barolos age sit in barrel before release; the family has always considered Dolcetto an early-drinking wine worthy of attention and take care with its élevage. Briefly decant to release its potential and pair with sausages blended with Italian herbal seasonings, white pizza with truffle oil, or a mushroom sauté.

Dogliani is a neighbor to the great Piedmont vineyards of Barbaresco and Barolo, and produces the best red wines made from the indigenious Dolcetto variety. The Abbona Dolcetto di Dogliani “Papa Celso” is aged for 10 months in stainless steel tanks, with an additional 2 months in bottle before release. Ripe and rich, this Piedmont red offers fresh fruit and floral notes with good structure and a long finish.

The nose is youthful and bright, full of red and Bing cherries. On the palate, notes of hard candy, with a lively Jolly Rancher-like cherry flavor. Mid-palate notes of cardamom, with a pleasurable, slightly herbal finish, with a trace of basil. The characteristics of Dolcetto shine through: a graceful balance of acidity and light tannins, alongside a youthful exuberance and freshness that make the varietal so versatile at the table.
