For over 150 years, Campari has been a favorite liqueur for drinkers with different tastes. The liquid is a dark red color and is often mixed with other alcohols and non-alcoholic drinks for cocktails. The drink was created in 1860. Depending on where the Campari is sold, the alcohol content ranges from 20.5 percent to 28 percent. After that, the bitterness of the drink starts to build. This is a wholly unique drink. The recipe and creation process of Campari is still a secret to this day. Campari includes fruits in water and alcohol as well as an infusion of herbs. The most common ways to drink Campari are in cocktails, with prosecco or with soda water. The most well-known drink using Campari is a Negroni. A Negroni can be served either straight up or on the rocks. All you need for this classic mixed drink is one ounce of dry gin, one ounce of Campari and one ounce of sweet vermouth. Mix these three together either in a mixing glass with ice or mix them right in the glass with some ice. Another great Campari-based mixed drink is the Jasmine. In a cocktail shaker, combine one-and-a-half ounces of gin, three-quarters of an ounce of fresh-squeezed lemon juice, a quarter ounce of Campari and a quarter ounce of Cointreau. When Luxardo marasca cherries are harvested at the beginning of every summer, they are put in alcoholic infusion in larch-wood vats together with some leaves and branches of the same trees for up to three years. When ready, both the liquid and the solid parts are distilled in traditional copper pot stills, separating the heart from heads and tails. Only the heart of the distillate is then allowed to mature in ash-wood vats. The last process consists in transforming the distillate in liqueur by adding a simple syrup of water and sugar lowering the ABV to 32%. Crystal clear in colour, the aroma is typical of marasca cherry distillate with strong alcohol spirit and roasted nuttiness, while the taste results smooth but sharp at the same time with hints of dark chocolate, vanilla and orange marmalade. The tall green bottle with its red cap is still hand-plaited in straw within the company, and resembles the Maraschino bottles produced in Zara in the early days, where the straw was placed in order to prevent damage during transportation. Luxardo Maraschino Originale can be enjoyed in many classic cocktails or neat as an after dinner drink. It is also ideal over fruits such as strawberries, pineapples, oranges etc. or as a flavor in confectionary and ice creams.
