Magnus celebrates Highland Park’s founder, Magnus Eunson, a butcher and church officer by day and bootlegger by night who set up his first illicit still over 220 years ago in an area known as the High Park in Kirkwall, Orkney. Jura 10 Year Single Malt Scotch whisky is crafted in exceptionally tall stills and initially matured in American white oak ex-Bourbon barrels for 10 years. Everyone knows you aren't allowed to make scotch whisky outside of Scotland, which is all well and good—if you care to follow rules (which we don't). So we picked a similarly convention-defying island, a little place called Brooklyn, and sent our rogue of a master distiller Mr. Willie Tait there with one goal: to create a world-class single malt scotch whisky made by and for the people of Kings County. He left with six cask samples and returned with an inspired blend hand-selected by some of the borough's most revered inhabitants and establishments. The nose is quite light and fresh. There are notes of barley sugars and toasted cereals, hints of winter spice and a soft oak with notes of salty melted butter and ground ginger. The palate is quite sweet and light. There are notes of acacia honey and a soft oak, the smoke and peppers thereof rise gently with a touch of dried fruit and peel with a cinnamon note. The finish is long and herbal with a touch of pepper.

Talisker Single Malt Whisky is made from malted barley sourced from the Muir of Ord, a village in Highland, Scotland. The barley is lightly peated to approximately 18 phenol parts per million, which contributes a slightly smoky flavor profile to the whisky. Once the barley has been malted and peated, it is mashed using soft water drawn from one of the 14 underground springs that rise from Hawk Hill - Talisker has been using the same water source since it was founded nearly two centuries ago. "I'm restless at heart so you'll find me poking my nose into the mash tun at all hours," says Mark Lochhead, Talisker's Distillery Manager. After the barley has been mashed, it is fermented in the distillery's wooden washbacks before being twice distilled through Talisker's copper-pot stills. The stills are equipped with unique swan-shaped lye pipes and worm tubs. As a result of this configuration, a portion of the vapor during distillation condenses before reaching the cooler, and runs back into the still for redistillation. Flying up to the Orkney Islands in Scotland was a huge highlight for the BevMo! team. After multiple barrel tastings we settled on this one. Matured in a refill sherry puncheon for 13 years, the nose is filled with orange peel and dried fruits with a touch of vanilla, honey and a gentle peat smoke. To taste, the dried fruit flavors are joined with a touch of heather honey, spices and light aromatic smoke. Bottled at cask strength and limited to just 590 bottles.

Hobgoblin is a powerful full-bodied copper red, well-balanced brew. Strong in roasted malt with a moderate hoppy bitterness and slight fruity character that lasts through to the end.

This Ledaig 1996 Vintage Single Malt Scotch Whisky is some of the first spirit distilled when peated single malt production commenced at Tobermory Distillery in 1996. Peat-dried malted barley is married with naturally peat infused water from the distillery’s private water source, a dark aromatic lochan, high in the mountains above the village of Tobermory, ensuring an intense smoky flavorsome character. Matured in superior Oloroso sherry casks the result is a wonderfully peated single malt, with apple and a hint of mint with citrus aromas. These disappear into the dark as the peaty embers glow into a smoky finale.

This was distilled at the Isle of Arran distillery in July 1996 before a 16 year maturation in a single cask (number 663). It was bottled for the Dimensions range from Duncan Taylor in October 2012. A release of 307 numbered bottles at natural cask strength. Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt Nose: Hints of dried herbs and toasted barley. A very malty, inviting nose with a touch of berry fruit and hay. Palate: Malty, thick palate with notes of citrus zest and digestive biscuits. Apple peel and allspice. Finish: Honeyed, fruity finish with bittersweet oak and barley. Overall: Classic Arran - malty and fruity.
