This is an intensely hoppy and strong lager that we refer to as a Double India Pale Lager. Over four pounds of hops per BBL of New Zealand hops (Kiwi Hops) were used in progressively larger hop additions throughout the brewing process. Four kettle hop additions, whole leaf hops in the hop back, and multiple dry hop additions infuse an intense floral and citrusy aroma. No kiwifruit or kiwi birds were used in the production of this beer.

A lager at heart, malty, crisp and refreshing with a hoppy aroma that you would expect from an India Pale Ale. This beer is a hybrid that takes two very different styles, Pilsner and IPA, and mashes them up into a unique, highly drinkable beer.

In the spirit of our local history we are revolting against the status quo. We are writing our own story by fueling the fire surrounding extra hoppy beers. We infuse Mass Rising with increasing amounts of American hops during the kettle, hopbock and dry hopping processes. Together, we have taken a journey to redefine the term 'lager.'

With the addition of Springdale, our options were endless, but as a group, we decided to prominently feature the common thread linking the brews this year: the Pink Boots Hop Blend – a combination of Palisades®, Simcoe®, Citra®, Mosaic®, and Laurel® hops. This blend is spicy, fruity, and earthy, and in our minds really lent itself to a supremely drinkable, sessionable IPL. To stand out from the crowd and honor the society for which it was brewed, we made an addition of beet puree to color the beer a bright pink shade. MMMKAY is an India Pale Lager originally produced from the final runnings of Aww Jeah. Since then, its own malt bill has been developed so the good people of Michigan can have access to MMMKAY even when Aww Jeah hasn’t been brewed. The initial fragrances are of bold citrus fruit; guava, orange, and lemon. As the head settles, the aromas shift to fresh evergreen accents. Indicated by the light body and pale yellow appearance, the focus of the beer is on hops, rather than malt. An array of enjoyable American hop flavors shock the palate ranging from slightly fruity to an intense earthy pine. A bold bitterness dominates the finish, enhanced by the clean unobtrusive nature of its lager origin.

When it comes down to it, one of the most important aspects behind a good beer is the hops. Orlison Brewing Co. brewmaster Bernie Duenwald knows this, so he created Orlison’s IPL, an India pale lager crafted with more hops than one bottle should be able to contain. Brewed with 9 different hops added in three separate stages and a hefty dose of malt, Orlison’s IPL is a stand-alone powerhouse in the world of craft-brewed pale lagers. With the flavorful features of an IPA and the clean finish of a lager, Orlison’s IPL, is a sessionable beer perfect for lager lovers who know the difference between real flavor and overdoing it.

We gave our classic Hoponius Union a tropical fruit twist to create Hoponius on Holiday. This IPL combines cold lager fermentation with a West Coast IPA hop profile. A blend of classic American hops accentuates the tropical fruit flavors and lends a citrusy aroma. A refreshingly crisp finish compliments the pleasant bitterness of the hops and leaves you wanting more.

Seaworthy is a pale lager dry-hopped with Centennial and Amarillo hops.

There are a few hops out there that brewers everywhere are constantly in pursuit of, and Nelson Sauvin is one of of them. We wanted to brew something that would convey our excitement about this hop, and out of that desire, our Nelson IPL was born. By using a lighter malt base, a blend of pilsner and 2-row, and a squeaky clean German Lager yeast, this allows Nelson to show off, and rightfully so. Exploding with white wine fruitiness and gooseberry, we recruited the assistance of Wakatu and Dr. Rudi to balance the hop profile. This beer is a spotlight on New Zealand and we hope you grow just as fond of the Southern Hemisphere as we have.

Mamma always knows best. Especially around the brew-kettle! It takes an expert like her to bring the time-honored discipline of German brewing in harmony with the wild excesses of the West Coast beer scene. And Hop Mamma IPL does it in spades. We added an absurd amount of Amarillo, cascade and falconer’s flight hops for a bright, citrusy frontend that offers notes of orange, grapefruit and pineapple, while a blend of malts (pale, Vienna, wheat, pilsner, aromatic, crystal) carry the middle of this beer, providing a medium body that goes down easy. All of this we built upon a foundation of German lager yeast to achieve that unmistakable backend bite of a strong Vienna lager. Crack open a Hop Mamma IPL and you’ll agree: Mamma always knows best.

Prost IPL is a hop-forward lager showcasing the flexibility of German malts and hops. The beer is golden colored with a bright white foam. Aroma is a blend of red berries, bright citrus, and subtle nectar fruits. Finish is smooth and bright with a hint of candied apricot. Extremely smooth and easy on the palate.
