A classic German double bock beer. Spaten Optimator is a bottom fermented dark beer "doppel bock" with a deep dark color and a rich roasted malt flavor.

A creature of the swamp, Andygator is a unique high gravity brew made with pilsner malt, German lager yeast, and German Perle hops. Unlike other high gravity brews, Andygator is fermented to a dry finish with a slightly sweet flavor and subtle fruit aroma. It is a Helles Doppelbock.

Brewed from dark malt barley also known as “Munich malt” is where the bier’s dark, chestnut color comes from. Salvator has a mild, sweet aroma of chocolate and imparts a distinctively bold, robust flavor.

Aventinus, the Wheat Doppelbock of Bavaria, has always been known to be the most intense and complex wheat beer in the world. This was the case for the past sixty years, but not anymore... Up until the 1940’s, Aventinus was shipped all over Bavaria in containers lacking temperature control. Consequently, the precious drink partially froze during transportation. Unaware that the brew was concentrated by the separation of water from the liquid. People were baffled by this unique version of Aventinus. By chance, the first Aventinus Eisbock was created. Well aware of this story, Hans Peter Drexler, brewmaster of the Schneider brewery, decided to recreate this classic "mistake" in a modern controlled facility. Thus, the Aventinus Eisbock is reborn sixty years later ... Prost!

This classic style was first brewed by monks in the Middle Agesin order to fortify themselves during their fasting. A generous amount of malt goes into every bottle of smooth, rich Taybeh Dark Beer. Brewed in small batches in German traditional style using roasted malted barley, hops, yeast, and pure water creating a classic quality rare brew to celebrate the turn of the century in the Holy Land.

Perhaps a quarter finger off-white head. Fades quickly and leaves no lacing. Clear and light amber in color. Smells like a barleywine, smelling bright golden raisins, prunes, brown sugar, and floral notes. Tastes very much like aromatics, picking up notes of honey. Very much like a barleywine or even a mead in certain aspects. Mouth-feel is very gentle, which surprised me considering the strength. Medium syrupy body. Minimal carbonation and warming sensation from alcohol, yet sweetness overcomes the drying feel I was expecting. Leaves a slick, oily feel on mouth, with a lingering aftertaste. Very interesting beer, one I'd be happy to pick up again, and will try to save some for cellaring.

This beer is one of our rare steps away from tradition, and toward creation. Arc Welder is a mash-up of the dark beer from Munich known as Dunkel lager, and a rye-based beer originally brewed in Bavaria called Roggenbier. We started with a dark lager recipe, and then replaced 26% of the base malt with rye malt. The goal was to showcase the soft sweetness of toasted malt with the dry spice of rye malt. The result is a perfectly autumnal beer that celebrates both styles while absolutely identifying as Metro.

Brewed in granite troughs, heated to white hot this beer has a caramel and roasted flavor. Also, a unique smoke flavor.

Double-decocted black bock brewed strongly with Münich and Roast malts and fermented extremely cold with our secret heritage lager yeast and finished with an excessive, hibernative lagering schedule. This iteration of German bockbier is our dirge to the Fall.

A traditional German dunkel (dark) bock brewed the old-fashioned way with dark Munich malts as the base instead of modern lightly kilned malts. This lager is smooth and deep brown in color with just a touch of German noble hops to balance the flavor.

Frightful weather is no match for Wonderland. A blend of five different malts lend a deep rich color and mild roast character refined by five weeks of lagering at near freezing temperature.

This is a true dopplebock and Dark Horse Brewing’s only publicly distributed lager. It was so normal that we couldn’t stand it so we made it into a coffee dopplebock. Ha, take that Germany, with your Reinheitsgebot purity law! Anyway, we use fare trade organic coffee from our friends at The Ugly Mug Cafe in Ypsilanti, MI

Mardi Gras Bock is brewed with pale, pilsner and caramel malts and German Perle hops. Our Bock is similar to German Maibocks with its rich malt flavor and full body. Mardi Gras Bock brings the fun of carnival season to you wherever you are!

Pours a very dark reddish brown, nearly opaque with absolutely no carbonation, totally flat. Aroma of red wine, tannins, dark dried fruit, darkly sour. Flavor of dark fruit, cherries, red wine tannins, wood, finishing with sour cherry, wine vinegar and a long unidentifiable bitterness.

Settle in for an alternate take on Troegenator. An extended stay in bourbon barrels has transformed this fiercely loved double bock into a nuanced layer cake of toasted coconut, creme brûlée and whiskey-soaked oak. Way back when, Troegenator caught everyone — including us — by surprise, but putting it in barrels was a sure thing. Opulent, silky and downright other-worldly, Bourbon Barrel-Aged Troegenator is for the believers. We taste: caramel, raisin, coconut, vanilla

A traditional style Helles brewed with high quality heritage malt from Germany and noble hops. A refreshing hint of lemon with malt notes throughout and a crisp, dry finish. This may be our favorite style of summer beer!

Orange-gold. Smell is of rich full caramel malt and well straw. The taste is of fruity esters in a rich caramel brew. Alcohol flavor is not prevalent despite 12% ABV.

Note: This was a 2013 limited release. The Brooklyn Brewery is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. We are fortunate to be a part of the incredible cultural renaissance Brooklyn has enjoyed during the last quarter century. Four great Brooklyn artists whom we met along the way—Fred Tomaselli, Roxy Paine, Joe Amhrein and Elizabeth Crawford—have created special labels for our Silver Anniversary Lager beer. We are saluting our beginnings with a special doppelbock version of the Brooklyn Lager we introduced in 1988. This beer is re-fermented in the bottle and will taste great today or years from now. The original was inspired by the beers of 19th Century New York and Vienna.
