Belgian Strong Ale

This strong Belgian pale ale is a lot more fun than the name implies. (The name—Delirium Tremens— actually refers to the confusion and jitters that can come with alcohol withdrawal.) Applauded across the globe as one of the best beers in the world, Delirium Tremens Beer pours clear and golden with a voluminous white head. Boasting sweet and fruity banana, citrus, and clove notes, the beer is vaguely reminiscent of a Hefeweizen, but with a more tart edge. With reviews that range from luscious and malty to smooth and spicy, we suggest you try this complex “world’s best beer” for yourself. Its ceramic bottle and blue label (sporting a pink elephant) help make it distinctly recognizable.

The Chimay Blue Cap, "baptized' "Grande Reserve" in 750 ml bottles is a dark Trappist beer with a powerful aroma, the complex flavour of which improves across the years. It was first brewed as a Christmas beer, explaining the presence of a "vintage". This authentic Belgian beer, whose tinge of fresh yeast is associated with a light rosy flowery touch, is particularly pleasant. Its aroma, perceived as one enjoys it, only accents the delightful sensations revealed by the odour, all revealing a light but agreeable caramelized note.

With the developing interest in Belgian abbey ales and the monasteries that brew them, it’s time to remind the world that here in the U.S., we have a Monk of our own. Jazz icon Thelonious Monk is the inspiration for North Coast Brewing’s new Belgian-style abbey ale called, appropriately enough, Brother Thelonious. The beer is being released in conjunction with the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz, and the brewery will make a contribution to the Institute for every case sold to support jazz education.

The lower gravity cousin to Rochefort 10. Nicknamed "Spéciale" (’The Special’), this beer is the most recent production. The Rochefort 8 has a more tawny colour and a more pronounced aroma, with an even richer fruitiness (a slight undertone of fig?) and a little more spiced dryness, like that of a cake, which gives a balanced finish to the final notes.

Fruity, spicy, complex aroma and flavor. A sweet palate is followed by low hop bitterness, evident coriander-like spiciness and a titillating alcoholic blast reminiscent of Flemish fantasies.

Malt, orange, wild spices with fragrances of coriander and cloves and floral hop notes. Characterized by a robust maltiness and spiciness that is counterbalanced by an assertive crisp hop finish.

Belgian Ales represent the height of the brewers' art. Sophisticated brewing techniques, yeast blends, and unique flavoring elements have elevated the beers of Belgium to the status enjoyed by wine in other countries. PranQster follows in this tradition using a mixed culture of antique yeast strains that produce a floral nose, a full fruity flavor, and a clean finish.

Technically, there is no such thing as a traditional Belgian stout, but we went ahead and made one anyway. In creating the beer, we took the aspects we loved in Belgian beers and used them to craft a stout. We brew Allagash Black with 2-row barley, torrified wheat, oats, roasted barley, chocolate malt, black malt and hop with Northern Brewer and Glacier. A generous portion of dark caramelized candi sugar produces a hint of raisin in the finished beer. The addition of oats lends Black a silky mouthfeel, which is enhanced by rich flavors of coffee and dark chocolate.

Gulden Draak has a strong scent of alcohol, which hampers the ability to easily define its aroma. Still, there is a powerful fragrance of barley, ripe plums, and cherries. Different testers worldwide mention a sweet coffee aroma. Compared to the aroma, the taste is influenced somewhat less by the alcohol. It hints at sour cherries and brown sugar. The aftertaste is somewhat bitter. Gulden Draak also has a high alcohol content for a beer at 10.5%.

Mischief is a hoppy Belgian-style golden strong ale. This wickedly good golden ale is fiendishly dry-hopped with American hops to add a layer of complexity and mystery to its fruity, dry Belgian-style character. Citrus and resin diabolically combine with ripe melon, pear and slight peppery spice in a precariously effervescent mixture. Enjoy it, but you’ll want to keep an eye out.

Named after the Futaleufu River in Chile and our efforts to protect the river. This is a big, bold beer that remains remarkably dry and drinkable. The combination of yeasts produce unique and complex fruit flavors and aromas.

Like the Brasserie Dubuisson’s renowned Scaldis Prestige, Scaldis Prestige de Nuits is aged in oak barrels for six months. But Prestige de Nuits is made of Scaldis Noel aged in Bourgogne barrels from the world famous "Nuits St. Georges" vineyard. The result is an ale of extraordinary complexity and depth.

Gaspar is one of the hoppiest beers in Belgium. Unfiltered, unpasteurized, bottle conditioned with a well balanced, complex hop aroma and a long lasting sparkling hop bitter finish. Serve cool (54° F) in a tulip-glass. 18° Plato; 20 EBC; 115 IBU (Hallertau, Goldings and Saaz)

Brigand is a strong and powerful beer with a somewhat neutral, very lightly malted smell. A taste of alcohol sweetness, slightly malty/herbal/hoppy, touches of citrus zest with a very slight bitterness that becomes stronger in the finish. Full mouth feel, no noticeable sticky aftertaste.

This beer is reddish brown with a tiny bubbled white lace. It has a smooth and creamy mouth feel that builds on the palate with flavors of yeast, fruit, and spice. A nice beer to drink with grilled meat and cheeses.

Bright blonde topped with pillowy white foam. Aromas of light clove, pear, and apricot. Flavors of sweet and spice melding, with a touch of tangerine. Finishes with an assertive bitterness, prickly carbonation, while leaving the mouth dry and clean.

We started brewing Gnomegang in 2010 as a collaboration with our friends over at Brasserie d'Achouffe in Belgium and it quickly became a fan and staff favorite. Chouffe's fruity, spicy yeast is a signature found in every Chouffe beer, and a welcome addition in this impactful blonde ale. Gnomegang has a rich, translucent golden hue with a big, fluffy, white head. Distinctive clove aromas, combined with yeasty fruitiness typical of Chouffe beers. Flavors include ripe fruit, clove, light caramel, non-cloying candy sweetness, smooth maltiness, and well-balanced hopping. Dry, warming finish that lingers gracefully.

This exceptional beer, fermented with three different types of yeast, was aged for six months in oak barrels, which were previously used in the making of apple brandy. Its nose features notes of vanilla, spices, roasted grains and barnyard. Its palate delivers intertwined flavours of burnt caramel, peach and fresh tobacco, as well as a soft effervescence delivered by fine champagne-like bubbles.

Strong Belgian type ale similar to a Port wine ! Is as dark as can be, mellow in taste with an aroma of ripe fruits. It can be compared to an old porto and is brewed from well roasted malt.

White Oak is an equal blend of two beers. A wheat-wine aged in Bourbon barrels (we call it “White Oak Sap”) and our Belgian-style Golden Strong Ale (Mischief) join eachother in a delicate dance of flavor and character before we package the final product. White Oak showcases vivid caramel, coconut and vanilla flavors blanketed in a crisp yet robust wheat ale. A true exercise of balance.

Lucky Bucket Brewing will release Certified Evil, its own version of last year’s Collaborative Evil project, this fall. The beer uses a strong Belgian-style golden ale as the base beer as well as locally-grown hops and a proprietary yeast blend. It has been aging in oak for just over one year.

Carrots and Sticks is a strong Belgian blond base beer that was brewed with walnuts, raisins, cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, and lemon zest. Fermented with Nordic Kveik yeast and carrot puree, the beer was then laid to rest for 14 months in freshly dumped bourbon barrels. After the final blend, the bourbon barrel aged beer was conditioned on Ugandan vanilla beans.
