This is a full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon with flavours of red cherries, cassis and hints of tobacco. There is great balance between the wood and fruit.

Lovely complexity with mix of tropical fruit, tangy grassy notes, fig leaves and nectarine nuances with crisp dry finish.

Bright purple in appearance, this medium-bodied Merlot boasts sweet, red fruits with notes of a cigar box and wet earth lending complexity. Deep, dark red colour. Intense rich, ripe cassis and blackberry nose with lovely spicy, lead pencil and creamy fynbos aromas. Rich, ripe fruit on palate with layers of spice and creamy fynbos. Great intensity with prominent fine tannins that carry the wine to a long finish. Great maturation potential. Drink 2017 to 2025. Delicious with most red meat dishes. Butterfly leg of lamb on the braai with wild rosemary a personal favorite.

The 2017 “Sunbird” Sauvignon Blanc has great clarity and expresses aromas and flavors of concentrated tropical fruit and gooseberries. The tapestry of flavors saturate the mouthfeel, while the crisp acidity refreshes.

Pinot Noir was the first wine we made back in 2013 from grapes from Jeanine's family farm in Faure. It is a great grape to work with, showing site more than most varieties. In the cellar we push the de-stemmer aside and ferment this wine 100% whole bunch. Fruit is picked by hand and lightly foot stomped in open top fermenters to get some juice. From there it is lightly pumped over one-two times a day to quite simply move the juice around. We don't aim to over extract as want to keep as many whole bunches and berries intact. 2014 was on skins/stems for around 10 days and drain and pressed to old barrels for 10 months.

L'Avenir was a pioneer of old vines Stellenbosch Chenin Blanc, with the first old vine, single vineyard wine produced in 2007. The celebrated Block 30 Chenin Blanc vineyard has stood the test of time and consistently produces wines of exceptional quality and character. Despite the poignant raison d’etre for this wine, the Mulderbosch Faithful Hound celebrates the virtues of Bordeaux’s great tradition of blending by being one of the first 5 varietal blends in the Cape. Aside from investing considerable effort in our own vineyards in close proximity to False Bay, our quest to find the perfect terroirs for each variety used in the blend leads us from the cool mountain plateau of Elgin to the rich, shale soils of Bottelary, and many places in between. The goal with each bottling of Faithful Hound is to produce a rich, complex wine that comfortably expresses old world class and the generosity of fruit associated with the Cape.

In tribute to the celebrated terroir of the historical Stellenbosch wine region, L'Avenir focuses on producing elegant wines which showcase their unique setting. We focus on the 2 varietals which form the foundation stone of the South African wine industry – tipping our hat to the heritage of Chenin Blanc while embracing the innovation inherent in Pinotage.

Vibrant blueberry, cassis, plums and flavours of raspberries combined with a creamy, rich palate to produce a succulent, elegant and juicy wine.

Wine Composition 100% Chardonnay Winemakers Comments Butterscotch, spicy cloves, lemon/lime and orange peel with complex mineral citrus flavours. A rich mouthfeel and subtly balanced toasty French oak integrate with the long, tropical peach and melon finish. After a light filtration, the wine was bottled.
