WINE DESCRIPTION Nero d’Avola is the most important red wine grape in Sicily, and is one of Italy’s most important indigenous varieties. It is named after Avola, a town in the far south of Sicily and its wines are compared to New World Shiraz, with sweet tannins and plum or peppery flavors. “The Black Grape of Avola” seems to have been selected by growers near Avola several hundred years ago. Initially it was confined to the southern tip of Sicily, but more recently has spread throughout the island. Its percentage is uncertain, though for sure there are no significant plantings outside of Sicily. TASTING NOTES Dark ruby red color. The bouquet on the nose is intense and typical with hints of dark cherries and blackberries together with more complex aromas of wet leather, black olive and Indian ink in the background. On the palate it is dry, rich, full-bodied, with a refreshing, long and fruity finish.

Planeta-Cometa-Fiano,-Sicilia-DOC
100% Fiano. Sip this outstanding white wine with the correct quietude enjoying its every change of tone. A silky tactile finish with a refined aftertaste of ripe apricot, of almond flowers and basil flowers. For five centuries and seventeen generations, the Planeta family has been involved in Sicilian agriculture. Their work on the island has contributed to the revitalization of Sicilian winemaking, now one of the most dynamic and sought-after viticultural regions in the world. Planeta’s journey begins at Sambuca di Sicilia, on the estate owned by the family since the 1600s. Here on Italy's most enchanting island, three enthusiastic young Sicilians, Alessio, Francesca and Santi Planeta, under the guidance of Diego Planeta, began their winemaking venture in the mid-1980s. Subsequent years were spent matching the extraordinarily diverse Sicilian soils with both indigenous and international varieties. Years of careful research paid off when the Planeta wines were met with immediate critical acclaim upon introduction in the U.S. in the late 1990s. 92pts Vinous 9/17 2016V 90pts Wine Spectator Web 2018 2016V
Terre Nere Etna Bianco

Terre-Nere-Etna-Bianco
I first made this wine in 2005. I wanted to remove that more or less 5% of white grapes that the local vignerons used to mingle with their red ones, in order to make my Etna Rosso from red grapes alone. The white grapes were a mumbo-jumbo of local varieties: Carricante, Catarratto, Grecanico, Inzolia and Minnella. So that’s what my Etna Bianco was: a field blend of all the above, with Carricante dominating the blend with roughly 65%. And that’s what it still is. All from old vines. And, somehow, it works. A perfectly lovely wine. With the effortless uplift of a dancer, it allows me to let it go freely through life, malo included, without it ever losing its bright demeanor and lively step. Deviously drinkable, still it always clings, leaving one wondering how it delights and where do the goodies come from. In aging, the noblesse of the Etna and its remarkable terroir emerge. And the loveliness turns thoughtful and deepens, still graceful, never redundant. Fish, meat or fowl, all are fine, if very gently cooked. It loves seafood, particularly over pasta: after all, it is Sicilian.

Whitaker Estate Grillo 2015

Whitaker-Estate-Grillo-2015
Eight hectares of Grillo in a terroir of marine origin, sandy and loose with limestone, and a unique harvesting method. This grape grows among the salt flats of the Marsala Pond, in particular on the small island of Mozia, an environmental and archeological gem, the outpost of Phoenician culture. A rare Mediterranean terroir that produced its first results at the end of the 1800s, but with the Tasca family, Grillo di Mozia earns its rightful recognition, combining personality and style. A wine that tastes of Scotch broom, lime and white pepper.
