Wine in Northern Rhone

100% Serine (ancient variety of Syrah). 70% Destemmed fruit – 30% Whole cluster fermentation. Granite sand from Malleval vale. Twelve months’ ageing: 20% in new casks – 40% in casks used for one wine - 40% in casks used for two or three wines.

Bright medium ruby. Musky black raspberry, smoked meat, bacon fat and gunflint on the nose. Densely packed, classically dry and superconcentrated, conveying outstanding youthful energy to its sharply delineated flavors of dark fruits, spices, wild herbs and underbrush. Boasts an incredibly fine-grained texture and noble tannins, finishing with outstanding length and lift. This Syrah has all the elements for greatness. Kongsgaard cited the vintage's "perfect combination of muscle and cushioning.

This wine is a blend from 3 different Hermitage terroirs: L'Ermite, le Sabot, and the famed plot, les Bessards. Made from 100% Syrah, grapes for Domaine des Tourettes are picked by hand and aged in French oak barrels. The color shows brilliant, deep red hues. The nose is powerful and complex, expressing blackberries, spices and leather. On the palate, Domaine des Tourettes is firm but silky, with a tightly-knit tannic structure that is the hallmark of wines that have a great future.

Alain Graillot founded his domaine in Crozes-Hermitage in 1985, and rapidly became one of the most in-demand producers in the Northern Rhone for his exuberant, robust, and complete Syrah-based wines. Alain owns 50 acres of 30-year-old Crozes-Hermitage vines on the flat alluvial plain between the Rhône and Isère rivers, in well-draining soils of sand, gravel, and stones. He also has two tiny parcels in St. Joseph, from which he makes a slightly fresher, more early-drinking wine than the remarkable Crozes-Hermitage that constitutes the majority of his production. Alain harvests by hand and works organically, employing whole-cluster fermentation and aging the wines primarily in 1-to-3 year old barrels purchased from some of the top estates in Burgundy. In great years, he makes tiny quantities of a barrel selection knows as “La Guiraude,” a rare and spectacular wine. Graillot’s wines are structured, but still very appealing and approachable in their youth, and their longevity is truly remarkable… These are must-haves for any serious Northern Rhone fan.

Olivier Ravoire Crozes Hermitage is an intense ruby color. The wine has a deep and intense bouquet with notes of black fruit reminiscent of blackcurrant and spice. A smooth yet powerful wine that is elegant and well-0structured.
