Many critics score this Hermitage wine highly: The Wine Advocate gave the 2012 vintage a score of 97 and Jancis Robinson gave the 1999 vintage a score of 18/20. A couple of prizes have been won by this wine in competition: the 1997 vintage was awarded 2 Stars from the Guide Hachette des Vins, and the 2007 vintage was awarded Commended from the International Wine Challenge. From younger vines and made for early drinking, this cuvee is vinified in cement and aged in large cement and a little goes into barrel before assembling and bottling unfined and unfiltered. Bright deep colour. This shows good depth and character with hints of chocolate and black olives to the bright vibrant fruit. Medium bodied with fine tannins.

There is powerful aromatic intensity and a lot of fullness and structure in the mouth. A very assertive expression of terroir which expresses the elegance and power of its tannins. This wine is one for very long aging, massive and concentrated, it has a rare intensity of flavor and color.

Olivier Ravoire Crozes Hermitage is an intense ruby color. The wine has a deep and intense bouquet with notes of black fruit reminiscent of blackcurrant and spice. A smooth yet powerful wine that is elegant and well-0structured.

Jean-Louis Chave and his father believe that the rich variety of terroirs to be found on the hill are vital in blending a wine which has all of the features they desire, including finesse, structure and complexity.

Crozes-Hermitage can be considered the gateway to the red and white wines of the Northern Rhône Valley. The reds, which are the majority of production, have wonderful warm flavors of red and black fruit, and typical Syrah pepper, spice and savory notes. TASTING NOTES: Attractive violets and blue fruit define the nose, as well as pepper and light spicy notes. The palate has a rich and smooth delivery of ripe red plums and cherries. Toasty, savory nourishing red. Medium weight with detectable acidity but very comfortable, confident winemaking. The structure is well balanced with a long and slightly tannic finish. The wine will benefit from a 10-20 minute decanting before serving. A lovely expression of the appellation.
