Mythical, historical, prestigious… These are just a few of the adjectives that can be used to describe Domaine Jean-Louis Chave. The family business, one of the elite producers in the Rhone Valley, is a master in the art of Syrah winemaking. It also heads a successful wine merchant commerce, which is behind the Silène cuvee, an enchanting and nervy red featuring mineral notes and refined tannins.

Chapoutier-Petite-Ruche-Crozes-Hermitage
The Crozes-Hermitage appellation was initially limited to the village and surrounding area of Crozes-Hermitage and originally designated thanks to the similarity of some of its wine to the Hermitage wines. This zone was long occupied by orchards and uncultivated land. It wasn’t until the extension of the appellation in 1952 that the vineyards were fully developed. Crozes-Hermitage wines are now well-known on their own merit.

Ripe, fleshy and well-defined, with charcoal and smoldering tobacco notes framing the core of crushed plum, macerated blackberry and black cherry fruit. A charcoal edge hangs through the finish, with a black tea note chiming in. Drink now through 2020. 600 cases made. –JM

Colour: deep yellow with a green hue. Nose: expressive and pleasant, opening onto a wide range of aromas, including peaches and white flowers. Palate: the attack is fresh, evolving into pleasant roundness. The sensation of ultra-ripe white fruit is very intense on the palate. The finish offers refined bitterness, prolonging the pleasure.

Blackcurrant, violet, and pepper on the nose with a smooth palate of black fruit, mineral and a smoke. Crozes-Hermitage is the Northern Rhône in the appellation that surrounds the famed vineyards of Hermitage. These grapes are sourced from the southern part of the Crozes-Hermitage appellation along the left bank of the Rhône River. About the Winery: Vidal Fleury was founded in 1781 as a wine grower and proprietor of vineyards in the renowned Côte Rôtie appellation in the Northern Rhône Valley. With more than two centuries of continuous operation, it is undisputedly the oldest functioning winery and wine firm in the Rhone Valley. Thomas Jefferson even visited in 1787, calling the wines “justly celebrated.” Today they continue these traditions and true to the founder's goals. the winery continues to produce wines that are the finest expression of their appellation. They now produce red, white, and rosé wines from throughout the Rhône Valley. Critical Acclaim: 2016: 91 points Vinous "Opaque ruby. Black and blue fruits, licorice and violet scents pick up a smoky quality and a hint of espresso with air. Bitter cherry and cassis flavors are sharpened by a vein of zesty minerality, and a salty olive note appears on the back half. The sweet, chewy, persistent finish displays solid tannic grip and lingering suggestions of succulent herbs and candied licorice."

Crozes-Hermitage is an appellation of the northern Rhone valley in France. It covers a relatively large area on the eastern bank of the Rhone river, to the north and south of Tain L'Hermitage town. Much larger than the prestigious Hermitage appellation which it surrounds, Crozes-Hermitage is also much more prolific. In 2011 almost 70,000 hl of wine were produced and sold under the Crozes-Hermitage title – more than the other seven northern Rhone appellations combined.
