Kongsgaard-Syrah-2013
Bright medium ruby. Musky black raspberry, smoked meat, bacon fat and gunflint on the nose. Densely packed, classically dry and superconcentrated, conveying outstanding youthful energy to its sharply delineated flavors of dark fruits, spices, wild herbs and underbrush. Boasts an incredibly fine-grained texture and noble tannins, finishing with outstanding length and lift. This Syrah has all the elements for greatness. Kongsgaard cited the vintage's "perfect combination of muscle and cushioning.

100% Serine (ancient variety of Syrah). Whole cluster fermentation. Schist in the Le Plomb, Besset, la Viaillère and Neve named vineyards. Twelve months’ ageing: 30% in new casks – 70% in casks used for one wine. Down through the years, I have tasted a broad selection of the many marvels the Rhone can offer, and I often wonder if this schist area in northern Côte-Rôtie (localities such as Viaillere, Grandes Places, Neve and Plomb) isn’t the greatest vineyard site in the Rhone valley. Because a top wine by Marius Gentaz or Albert Dervieux can go the distance with any superlative Rhone wine... I have always had a profound love for this location, which has the ability to produce everything you would expect of a consummate wine: character, site-expressiveness, aromatic complexity, texture on the palate and balance. And ultimately - drinkability, pleasure, emotion and the chance to share. 2018 is a great vintage in the northern Rhone – I have no hesitation in saying so. The Côte-Rôtie this year displays superb density and depth, yet never loses its tell-tale “ethereal” character. More than ever, whole cluster fermentation defined the vintage style. Ripeness was perfect in 2018 – admittedly challenging vintages have all but disappeared in the northern Rhone. Enjoy this 2018 with beef and truffles. Smoked ham, violets, graphite, cold ashes, liquorice. Bottled unfiltered

St-Cosme-Cote-Rotie-2012
The 2012 Cote Rotie is very aromatic and charming, which is an important dimension. This Cote-Rotie is made like a burgundy wine, with a gentle touch. The nose develops aromas of violets, graphite, ashes, roses and liquorish.

Vidal-Fleury-Cote-Rotie-Brune-Blonde-2003
Brilliant, dark red in color. Intense on the nose with violet, spice and berry. Rich, soft but intense on the palate, with layers of red fruit, black currant and spice. Terroir: Sourced from two of the most revered parcels of the entire Rhône Valley. Steep, terraced vineyards rise high above the Rhône River. Côte Blonde owes its name to the light soils of gneiss and silica gravel with clay, while the Côte Brune to the north contains darker soil of mica, schist, iron and a higher proportion of clay. About the Brand: Vidal Fleury was founded in 1781 as a wine grower and proprietor of vineyards in the renowned Côte-Rôtie appellation in the Northern Rhône Valley. With more than two centuries of continuous operation, it is undisputedly the oldest functioning winery and wine firm in the Rhone Valley. Thomas Jefferson even visited in 1787, calling the wines “justly celebrated.” Today they continue these traditions and true to the founder's goals. the winery continues to produce wines that are the finest expression of their appellation. They now produce red, white, and rosé wines from throughout the Rhône Valley. Critical Acclaim: 2016: 92 points Vinous "Dark violet. A highly perfumed, complex bouquet evokes dark fruit preserves, smoky minerals and pungent flowers, along with olive and licorice accents. Stains the palate with sappy, spice-tinged black and blue fruit flavors given lift by a spine of zesty acidity. Clings with strong tenacity on the sweet, floral-accented finish, which is shaped by velvety, slow-building tannins." Josh Raynolds, Vinous
