Deep purple in color, with complex aromas of toast, minerals, sour cherries, cedar and spices. This wine dispalys the roundest tasting profile of all Gaja single-vineyard wines. The rich body, subtle texture and fine, ripe tannins are typical for this wine of great finesse, the quintessential expression of the land and the Nebbiolo grape. This wine has extraordinary aging potential--more than forty years in outstanding vintages.

After a few minutes in the glass, this stunning wine opens up to reveal classic Nebbiolo aromas of leather, tilled soil, underbrush, fragrant blue flower and ripe berry. The juicy concentrated palate dishes out layers of succulent black cherry, crushed raspberry, anise and pipe tobacco framed in firm, velvety tannins. Drink 2022–2035.

Renato Ratti Langhe Nebbiolo has delicate, lasting red fruit aromas. The wine is filled with Nebbiolo’s classic notes of strawberry and raspberry followed by pleasant savory and earthy notes. This is a velvety wine, blending a full body and rich notes with balance and finesse. The finish is long and graceful. It is approachable now and will evolve delightfully for 10-12 years.

Deep red in color, with highly concentrated aromas of currant and black cherry fruit with a hint of coffee. Also, aromas of fine herbs, minerals and exotic spices. Almost always the most powerful and austere of Gaja's five single-vineyard wines, requiring a longer time to fully develop. A very focused, concentrated wine with a long, lingering finish and refined tannins, it has excellent aging potential.

Displays an alluring bright ruby red colour. Perfumes are vibrant, with lots of raspberry tones, followed by red cherry and stone fruits, ramassin plum and florals. In the palate, this Nebbiolo is generous and vibrant, fresh, with reminescence of raspberry and a hint of fresh mountain strawberry. There is plenty of red tones supported by elegant and gracious tannins and a delicious, lifted finish.

Elena is the daughter of co-owners, Valter Fissore and Nadia Cogno. The vineyard for this wine was planted when Elena was born, and is dedicated to her, as is the wine. This wine is medium-bodied and impressively balanced. The bouquet offers rose petal, white pepper, balsam herb, dry flowers and a hint of sweet tobacco. The mouthfeel is refreshing and determined, with a sense of austerity that culminates in an ethereal aftertaste. It is a Barolo filled with absolute class, lifted by a subtle texture of gracious tannins.

Crushed raspberry, blue flower, tilled soil and graphite aromas lead the nose on this firmly structured wine. It's still very young and needs to open up fully, but the palate already displays breeding and class. It offers ripe black cherry, ground black pepper, licorice and grilled sage alongside tightly wound but fine tannins. Drink 2018–2026.

"Figa" is Italian slang, albeit slightly vulgar, but also common in some northern regions like Milan and Bergamo where folks may use it as a comma or placeholder when speaking, not dissimilar to "dude" or "like" for American English speakers. Nebbiolo is the mighty grape of Piedmont and Lombardia famous for its lightly colored yet beastly tannic red wines. As always: natural ferment, unfined, unfiltered....a great food wine! Joe Swick is a native of Portland, Oregon who makes a wide array of unique organic wines. All his wines are made with natural yeasts, unexpected grape varieties grown in both Oregon and Washington State by small, dedicated growers. Joe's earlier wines included studies on Pinot Noir clones but nowadays many of his wines are adventurous co-ferments and naturally-made versions of classic grapes from Portugal or Burgundy.

Nose: the nose is vivid, powerful and neat; austere at the beginning. Wild berries, coffee, licorice, violet and mint. Good balsamic tones. Palate: powerful and structured; savoury with clear tannins; very long finish. Pairings: long cooking red meats, perfect with deer roast.
