Di-Giovanna-Vurria-Grillo-Blanco
This unique example of the native Sicilian Grillo is surprisingly concentrated and powerful, thanks to low yields from rigorous green pruning. The native grape is very prolific and can be uninteresting and watery without attentive vineyard management. It shows the typical characteristics of Grillo; aromatic with tropical fruit notes, melon and almond, fresh with a savory finish.

Eight hectares of Grillo in a terroir of marine origin, sandy and loose with limestone, and a unique harvesting method. This grape grows among the salt flats of the Marsala Pond, in particular on the small island of Mozia, an environmental and archeological gem, the outpost of Phoenician culture. A rare Mediterranean terroir that produced its first results at the end of the 1800s, but with the Tasca family, Grillo di Mozia earns its rightful recognition, combining personality and style. A wine that tastes of Scotch broom, lime and white pepper.

Grillo and Cataratto grapes give this wine fresh Mediterranean scents and a savory, elegant flavor with a typical hint of bitter almonds. Piano Maltese is born at the heart of Tenuta Rapitalà, on gentle hills at 1200 feet above seal level. Terroir: Selected parcels of vines located at 1200 feet above sea level are trained by the Guyot system on clay soil with limited yields of 32 quintals per acre. Vinification: The grapes are harvested and vinified separately. The Grillo is harvested at the end of August, and the Catarratto is picked in the middle of September. The same vinification method is used for both varietals: crushing of the grapes and de-stemming, cooling of the must and gentle pressing is followed by division of the different qualities of the must and cold settling occurs before a slow fermentation. The wines rest on their lees before being blended and bottled in February following the harvest.

Grillo vines are the flagship of our varieties. For this wine we have chosen the highest hill in order to exalt its freshness and flavour. We put it into tonneaux to trap its body giving it a delicate note of oak and acacia. Such good care for a wine symbol of western Sicily. Intensity and elegance are the perfect mix of this wine. Wide bouquet with a natural delicacy. The most refined fish and vegetable-based pastas are the perfect match for this wine. The hallmark dish to paired with grillo is grilled swordfish. Quite surprising how it can wedge itself in among the flavours of the Sicilian cuisine.
