Gamay

An easy-drinking wine made with high quality grapes grown in the southern part of Beaujolais. Soils are light, and allow a light, fresh expression of Gamay. The grapes are handpicked in whole bunches and cold soaking is longer than usual for Beaujolais.

This flirtatiously fruity wine is made from the Gamay grape grown in the northern part of the Beaujolais region, which is rare for a wine at this price. Most everyday-priced Beaujolais wines comes from the south. The vines grow in the traditional freestanding bush or goblet style near the villages La Chapelle de Guinchay and Romaneche-Thorins which lie just east of the Crus, Fleurie and Chenas. The soil is a free-draining mixture of decomposed granite, clay and sand. Grapes are picked by hand and vinified in the tradition of carbonic maceration which helps to extract fruit rather than tannin, producing bright, lively wines best consumed fresh and while youthful.

Gamay Noir Complex nose with aromas of ripe fruits (blueberry, plum) mixed with toasted and licorice hints. Elegant, with fresh fig and ripe red berry aromas (black cherry, wild strawberry), as well as delicate spicy notes. Nice structure on the palate with a long licorice finish. To be paired with cold meats, grilled poultry and cheese. Best served between 14°C and 16°C. Vegan Friendly.

In the hamlet of Le Breuil, deep in the southern Beaujolais and perched above a narrow creek, the Domaine Dupeuble has been running almost continuously since 1512. The name of the domaine has changed just three times in its history, most recently when the last heir, Anna Asmaquer, married Jules Dupeuble in 1919. Anna’s son Paul, and her grand children Ghislaine and Stéphane Dupeuble, manage the domaine. Kermit first met Ghislaine and Stéphane’s father, Damien, for lunch in Paris in the late 1980s, and thus began the annual tradition of blending the KLWM Beaujolais Nouveau. Tradition runs deep in the family, but each generation has also managed to add something new, including increasing the property. Today it is comprised of one hundred hectares, about forty percent of which is consecrated to vineyards. Strong advocates of the lutte raisonnée approach to vineyard work, they tend their vines without the use of any chemicals or synthetic fertilizers. The vineyards, planted primarily to Gamay, face Southeast, South, and Southwest, and about two thirds of the property is on granite-based soil. The grapes are harvested manually and vinified completely without SO2. The wines are not chaptalized, filtered, or degassed and only natural yeasts are used for the fermentation. The wines of Dupeuble represent some of the best values in the Beaujolais today and are widely regarded for their very high quality and eminently reasonable price.

The Beaujolais Villages Nouveau is deeper red, with flavors reminiscent of strawberries and roses, plus a mineral component. Fragrant and medium bodied; refreshing with a tart finish. Beaujolais Villages Nouveau is meant to be consumed young, within 5-7 months

Jubilee Vineyard, at the Northern tip of the Eola Hills, basks in sunlight on south facing slopes all day long, and produces some of the best Gamay in the Willamette Valley. Powerful coastal winds cool the fruit to preserve acidity, and dry sedimentary soils produce small, concentrated berries. We destem around 85%, leave the remainder whole cluster, and allow spontaneous fermentation to occur in large concrete tanks. After a couple weeks of cool, slow fermentation, the wine is racked to neutral barriques for 10 months of aging.

This is Yohan Lardy's top wine, produced from vines planted in 1903. Dark and dense although shot with acidity, the wine is firm and concentrated. It layers a floral character with minerality and black fruits. The wine needs to age further, so drink from 2018.

This well-balanced wine has typical aromas of violet with an emphasis on fruit, and comes from nine different vineyards of the Gamay varietal, which are located throughout the Moulin a Vent appellation. The refinement and richness of this wine is revealed by a soft wine making technique, maceration under CO2 and a six-month aging process in wooden vats and barrels.

With its deep garnet colour, Morgon releases ripe fruit aromas such as cherry and plum. Rich, powerful and full-bodied, this wine reflects all the features of its terroir. Its concentration and generous colouring promote its ageing.
