Martin-Codax-Albarino
Martín Códax Rías Baixas Albariño is delicate and medium-bodied with a crisp, dry finish. On the palate, flavors of pear, passion fruit, ripe apple, peach and lemon zest are framed by bright minerality and hints of spice. Attractive floral aromatics and brisk acidity make this a versatile, food-friendly wine.

Pale yellow with notes of lemon, peach and tropical fruit aromas. Round, ripe and savory with a slightly exotic personality. It’s nicely textured and over-delivers in the finish. Excellent minerality.

Adopted from a hillside cooled by maritime winds and a long rainy season in Spain and planted in another such climate in the coolest parts of the Willamette Valley, we believe this wine presents a compelling case for a new home for Albariño. The Albariño opens with fresh aromatics of lime zest and and Asian pear. On the palate, acid-driven flavors of Meyer lemon curd and honeysuckle nectar complement layers of minerality and sur lie character. The wine finishes with lots of energy and just a touch of salinity.

Rías Baixas represents the lowlands of Galicia, with an elevation generally less than 300m near the sea and the lower reaches of the rivers, giving the region a distinct Atlantic influence with mild temperatures and high rainfall. Here, Albariño finds its natural habitat. La Milla is a cuvée made in collaboration with third generation winegrower and winemaker Angel Parada. It is sourced from an organically and biodynamically farmed plot of old vines (up to 80 years old) in the sandy soils of the Soutomaior subzone of Rías Baixas. After hand harvesting, spontaneous fermentation and aging occur entirely in stainless steel tanks.

This juicy Albariño opens like a bowl of fresh fruit, with aromas of apple, pear, peach and melon. Stone-fruit and citrus flavors are slightly pithy and oily in character, while tangy orange and pineapple echo on a brief but clean finish.

Curious varietals from unfamiliar places represent some of the most exciting wines crafted in California. Such hard-to-find vineyards and rare varietals — like Albariño from Lodi — are quintessential examples of what Field Theory showcases. To accentuate the balance of flavor and acid, the fruit was harvested over the course of 3 nights. Picked by hand in the evenings of late August, the Albariño was whole- cluster pressed, then slowly fermented in cool stainless steel tanks (at around 50 degrees) for three weeks. This white grape covets warm, sunny climates that are moderated by maritime breezes or cooler nighttime temperatures, so it’s right at home in Lodi.
