Maibock / Helles Bock

Rogue's 30-year-old, flagship beer. In the style of a German Maibock, brewed using our proprietary Pacman yeast, Dead Guy Ale is deep honey in color with a malty aroma, rich hearty flavor and a well-balanced finish.

Perhaps a quarter finger off-white head. Fades quickly and leaves no lacing. Clear and light amber in color. Smells like a barleywine, smelling bright golden raisins, prunes, brown sugar, and floral notes. Tastes very much like aromatics, picking up notes of honey. Very much like a barleywine or even a mead in certain aspects. Mouth-feel is very gentle, which surprised me considering the strength. Medium syrupy body. Minimal carbonation and warming sensation from alcohol, yet sweetness overcomes the drying feel I was expecting. Leaves a slick, oily feel on mouth, with a lingering aftertaste. Very interesting beer, one I'd be happy to pick up again, and will try to save some for cellaring.

By tradition, the first barrel of Maibock is tapped at the Hofbräuhaus in the last week of April, in time for the merry month of May. The success story of Munich’s oldest bock beer goes back as far as 1614. Hofbräu Maibock has the longest pedigree of all Munich’s Bocks. Its aromatic flavor and alcoholic content of approximately 7.2% by volume makes it one of the best creations from Hofbräu’s brewing kettles. Hofbräu Maibock marks one of the high points in the beer-lover’s calendar!

German-style Maibock brewed with Pilsner, Vienna and Munich malts

Holsten Maibock is a strong full- bodied beer, amber-golden in colour, aromatic and richly malt flavoured. Brewed in accordance with the German Purity Law it contains only natural ingredients. This beverage is characterised by its high original gravity and strong 7% alcohol content.

Dead Guy Ale aged in Dead Guy Whiskey barrels. The barrels enhance the robust malt and hop profiles of original Dead Guy Ale. The ale soaks in hints of oak and whiskey while maturing over several months at the Rogue ocean aging room. 10 Ingredients: 2-Row, C15, Munich & Rogue Farms Dare™ and Risk™ Malts; Perle & Sterling Hops; Free Range Coastal Water & Pacman Yeast; all aged in Dead Guy Whiskey oak barrels.

A traditional style Helles brewed with high quality heritage malt from Germany and noble hops. A refreshing hint of lemon with malt notes throughout and a crisp, dry finish. This may be our favorite style of summer beer!

The incredibly difficult to brew Bavarian Helles lager. It is a test of patience to brew this beer. 2 months it sat in the tank and lagered. A style of beer invented in Munich by the Spaten brewery in 1895. Aromas of clean, cracker like pilsner malt. Every so subtle floral/spicy hop aroma. Bready pilsner malt flavor that is clean and slightly sweet, and a soft hop bitterness. Crisp, clean, dry traditional lager character that pours pale straw with a creamy white head and is brilliantly clear or stupid bright! Some will argue that it is the “Perfect Beer”.

The innocent bright color is deceptive . The intensive brewing process results in a very high alcohol content , which is subtly but veiled by unimaginable amounts of Hallertau aroma hop variety sapphire. A New World Classic, Bay State’s Mai Bock is a big bright golden malty lager. Easy drinking and warming with substantial body and mouth feel and just a hint of sweetness. Made from generous amounts of Pilsner and Vienna malts, Bohemian hops and Bavarian lager yeast.

Brewing things the old school way is “bock” breaking work. Maibock Hurts Like Helles is our take on a traditional Helles Bock. This golden lager is exceptionally drinkable for its strength. A light noble hop character balances the smooth sweet finish. Like the rest of our Keller Series, this Maibock is left unfiltered.

Vokuhila is a strong pale lager. This helles bock is golden in color with a large, creamy, persistent white head; aromatically driven by robust toast and bread notes derived from continental European pale malts with moderate spice from noble German hops. Vokulhila will be appreciated by lager and mullet enthusiasts alike.
