Imperial Porter

Brewed with a carfeully crafted malt bill comprised of seven different varieites of malted barley, this robust dark ale has a silky mouthfeel with notes of roasted malt, dark cacao and coffee. The addition of 400 pounds of in-house hand-toast- ed coconut lend a delightful and distinct tropical aroma that carries into the flavor. Cascade hops are used to temper the sweetness and lend a spicy yet subdued complexity.

We brew Death Wobble Imperial Porter big and add generous amounts of oats, roasted barley, chocolate malt and locally roasted coffee from Traction Coffee Roasters. Enjoy!

Imperial Coffee Porter

Rich and decadent, full bodied beer salutes American pilots who airdropped packages of chocolate into post WWII Berlin. The intense, roasted malt flavor is derived from two types of chocolate malt and raw cocoa nibs. Whole vanilla beans introduced post fermentation adds complexity and enhance the dessert like qualities.

Brash Brewing Company, the brain child of Petrol Stations Ben Fullelove, collaborated with Clown Shoes to make Pimp. Ben made a recipe for a double batch of a rich Belgian brown and we made a double batch of a 10 version of Brown Angel. The two beers were blended to make Pimp, a double, double brown ale. ABV 10

Blackbeard's Breakfast is a robust porter with a new world twist. Aged in bourbon barrels and brewed with Chesapeake Bay Roasting Company's Dark Sumatra coffee, this porter is flavorful and complex. The third offering in our series of Decadence Anniversary Ales, is a big, rich Imperial Porter. Brewed to the parameters of a classic Porter, Decadence 2007 has the intense aromas of dark malt and chocolate complimented by a lusciously smooth mouthfeel. The flavor is rich and malty, and balanced with just the right amount of English East Kent Goldings hops. 4BEANS is more of a dessert beer, aged in rye barrels and laid on whole Madagascar vanilla beans. This beer is also all first runnings and completely uncut, providing a big, rich, full-bodied experience.

We partnered with our friends at High West® Distillery to create a barrel-aged version of Ballast Point Victory at Sea, our award-winning Imperial Porter with cold-steeped coffee and vanilla. From a blend of Ballast Point Victory at Sea aged in High West’s own bourbon & rye whiskey oak casks, new layers of complexity emerge with notes of soft caramel and smoky oak over a dark chocolate and roasted almond body. High West crafts delicious and distinctive whiskeys to honor the American West, making it the perfect pairing with our signature San Diego-born porter.

Cassiopeia is an imperial porter brewed for the onset of winter. Black as the night sky, our imperial porter is brewed from a blend of premium dark malts chosen for their complex caramel/chocolately/fruity qualities. Cool-fermented with a clean Scotch ale yeast that emphasizes malty richness and earthy, mossy aromatics — think of Cassiopeia as a Baltic Porter fermented like a Wee Heavy. This velvety, warming ale is surprisingly well attenuated, light on the palate and digestible. Cassiopeia is best served in a tulip glass or snifter at 45-55* F. It will age well, developing pleasant sherry notes in the bottle with extended cellaring. It pairs perfectly with chocolate, roasted and smoked meats, blue cheeses, and cold winter nights.

Thor, one of our favorite four-legged friends had a big, gentle heart to match his huge, smiling, slobbering face. Jeff, Thor’s best friend and owner, says that the gentle giant would pull him in the direction of the brewery on their walks, to park it by the garage door, get some love and smell what’s cookin’. He brightened everyone’s day and is missed by all. This Imperial Porter is made in memory of the big guy. A portion of proceeds will benefit the Great Lakes Mastiff Rescue.
