Ruby red in color. A nose dominated by notes of cocoa, cherries, and spice. On the palate, the wine is bold with blackcurrant, cherry, and roasted nut flavors.
Composed of mostly Grenache (65%) with 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre, 5% Carignan. Aged in a combination of stainless tanks and large oak barrels to retain the bright fruit and soften the tannins in their newly modernized cellars.
About the Brand:
Vidal Fleury was founded in 1781 as a wine grower and proprietor of vineyards in the renowned Côte-Rôtie appellation in the Northern Rhône Valley. With more than two centuries of continuous operation, it is undisputedly the oldest functioning winery and wine firm in the Rhone Valley. Thomas Jefferson even visited in 1787, calling the wines “justly celebrated.” Today they continue these traditions and true to the founder's goals. the winery continues to produce wines that are the finest expression of their appellation. They now produce red, white, and rosé wines from throughout the Rhône Valley.
Critical Acclaim:
2018: (88-90) Points Jeb Dunnuck
“[Tasted when] not yet bottled, the 2018 Côtes du Rhône should be a step up over the 2017 and has more blue fruits, black licorice, and peppery notes as well as medium-bodied richness and depth. It has the charming, supple style of the vintage front and center and will shine for 3-4 years as well.”
