Our Syrah grapes are harvested from a combination of cold- and warm-climate estate vineyards strategically located along a 70-mile corridor of the Salinas Valley in Monterey County. The fruit from the colder, northern sites provides black pepper aromatics, spice and structure. With warm, sunny days, followed by strong afternoon winds and chilly nights, the grapes from the warmer southern areas contribute ripe berry flavors and soft juicy tannins
At the winery, the fruit is carefully sorted then destemmed, crushed and fermented at warm temperatures in stainless steel fermenters. Gentle punch downs are performed several times a day. Once dry, the must is pressed into stainless steel tanks for settling, then racked prior to aging on both new and neutral French and American oak.
Our Ryder Estate Syrah delivers the best of warm- and cold-climate growing conditions. It features a mix of blackberries, plums and cassis, followed by spice, pepper and earthy notes. On the palate the wine is juicy and fruity with an undercurrent of mocha and vanilla.
