This is medium-dry as far as port goes, but it is absolutely a sweet wine. A throwback to the days when Douro vintners had first begun to fortify their wines for the British market, this unfiltered, estate-bottled ruby packs a lot of character. Light to medium-bodied, with lots of juicy, peppery fruit, I recommend this as an introduction to the world of port, but it's got enough power and sophistication that even a seasoned port-lover looking for an everyday tipple will not be disappointed. Drink this with blue cheeses (Stilton is the classic), or on its own.
