José Abascal (1743-1821) as patron provides the name of the umbrella brand and quality seal Marqués de la Concordia. Abascal was brevet by the Spanish King Ferdinand VII. 1812 the noble title of Marqués de la Concordia of Peru. In his function as viceroy he expedited social reform, knowledge transfer and cooperation between Creoles and Spaniards in best concord.
WINEMAKING
The vines are located exclusively in Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa on the north-western edge of the most prestigious wine appellation of Spain. The vines grow 650m a.s.l. on nutrition poor calcareous clay soil. Intense maceration for phenol extraction is achieved by frequent transfers. The temperature controlled fermentation is done in stainless steel deposits at maximum temperature of 26Cº. Aging takes place during 24 month in French and American barriques.
TASTING NOTES
Intense coulour depth, cherry red to ruby. Primary aromas of ripe wild berries, balsamic and subtile toast, ceder und palisander notes. On the palete conentrated, harmonic, distinctive but well integrated acidity. Structured, full body, vevety and lasting.
FOODPAIRING & SERVICE TEMPERATURE
Entrecote, sappy tenderloin, lamb, pork and game, cured cheese e.g. Mahón-Menorca, Manchego (Castilla la Mancha).
