Aplanta Red Blend

When the Alqueve Dam was constructed in the early years of this century in the Alentejo region of southern Portugal, creating what is now the biggest artificial lake in all of Europe, the old village of Aldeia da Luz was below the proposed water line. The authorities devised a unique solution to the problem: they completely rebuilt the town a few miles away on higher ground. The relocation included the planting of a 500-acre olive grove and a 200-acre vineyard, and it is from that community vineyard that grapes for this wine are sourced. A 70/30 blend of Aragonez and Alicante Bouschet, it has lush aromas of blueberries, plums and cherries with those same fruit notes on the palate along with hints of tobacco, black pepper, and spice.
