The color is a rich scarlet-red, with opulent aromas of blackberry, black cherry, cinnamon, nutmeg and a hint of caramel. The palate comes alive with flavors of ripe raspberries, strawberry jam, a dense blackberry core, warm gingerbread, and a hint of toffee. It is perfectly balanced with refreshing acidity, plush weight on the mid-palate and a wonderfully supple texture. The expansive fruit flavors carry through to a long, pure and persistent finish. When asked to describe this wine, I simply say it’s like a taste of Christmas, all year long.

Katherine’s Vineyard Chardonnay is an ocean influenced, single vineyard expression of “refrigerated sunshine” in a glass – layered, elegant, distinct. Fresh granny smith apples, floral and spice aromas dominate the nose; pink grapefruit, tangerine, citrus blossom, and apple pie flavors are balanced by a bit of wet stone. The oak influence creates a nice mid-palate, yet the wine still shows a balanced acidity that carries through the long finish. Chardonnay is one of the most celebrated white wines in Santa Barbara County, California. Barbara's Signature Collection Clone 667 Pinot Noir is selected from the premier Pinot Noir blocks within the vineyard and is a distinct expression of our Estate in Santa Maria Valley, California. All grapes from our Estate Vineyards are certified under the California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance and Sustainability in Practice. Cranberry, dark cherry, and blueberry fruit aromas and flavors combine with fresh earth and oak spice character, while full tannins carry this red wine through the finish.

The Santa Maria Valley Chardonnay is completely barrel fermented and goes through 100% malolactic fermentation with use of native yeasts. The resulting wine is complex with clear fruit expression and bright acidity. Signature Santa Maria Valley aromas of tropical fruit are present on this white wine, paired with a slightly saline minerality. Peach and citrus come across on the palate, with a long, clean finish.

Julia’s Vineyard Pinot Noir displays coastal, single vineyard elegance with an authentic sense of place – classic, refined, with a twist. Ripe blackberry and blueberry flavors are followed by notes of cranberry, cherry and pomegranate. With a balance of earth and baking spice, this wine offers firm tannins and a long finish. Bien Nacido Pinot Noir is Sandler's 8th from the 1973 planting in Block T. This is by far the oldest vines where Sandler sources fruit, and is getting to be some of the oldest Pinot Noir in California. Year in and year out, it produces Sandler's most popular Pinot. The 2017 Bien Nacido will be bottled in late February 2019.

Tasted as a barrel sample, the Chardonnay Block UU Bien Nacido Vineyard has outstanding potential with its pineapple, citrus, lime peel and seawater-like aromas and flavors flowing nicely to a medium-bodied, focused and racy style on the palate. Barrel-fermented and aged on its lees, it should drink nicely for 4-6 years after release.
