The color is a rich scarlet-red, with opulent aromas of blackberry, black cherry, cinnamon, nutmeg and a hint of caramel. The palate comes alive with flavors of ripe raspberries, strawberry jam, a dense blackberry core, warm gingerbread, and a hint of toffee. It is perfectly balanced with refreshing acidity, plush weight on the mid-palate and a wonderfully supple texture. The expansive fruit flavors carry through to a long, pure and persistent finish. When asked to describe this wine, I simply say it’s like a taste of Christmas, all year long.

Katherine’s Vineyard Chardonnay is an ocean influenced, single vineyard expression of “refrigerated sunshine” in a glass – layered, elegant, distinct. Fresh granny smith apples, floral and spice aromas dominate the nose; pink grapefruit, tangerine, citrus blossom, and apple pie flavors are balanced by a bit of wet stone. The oak influence creates a nice mid-palate, yet the wine still shows a balanced acidity that carries through the long finish. Our Chardonnay has notes of savory apple and lime zest, browned butter and brulee, clean ocean breeze, hints of tropical fruit (guava/pineapple), complex and surprisingly integrated for such a young Chardonnay. Apple créme brulee, lime zest and citrus blossom, rich with a flavor akin to pears poached in butter. Firm acid, quite dry, but supported by a good dollop of fruity and oak - toasted richness. Slightly leaner style than 2013, but with enough malolactic and oak treatment to leave no doubt this is a crafty and deliciouslly balanced Chardonnay. Ready to drink now but will become a little more complex, mineral and nutty between 5 and 8 years from vintage date. Decanting/aerating suggested through 2019.

Presqui’ile Vineyard is planted on a extremely sandy ridge at the southwestern edge of the Santa Maria AVA. The combination of the moderate climate and relatively poor soils creates a Syrah this is lively, spicy and complex. The wine was fermented with 25% whole clusters to add to the texture and mouth feel of the wine. Dark purple color, reminiscent of violets with aromas of crushed black pepper.

With the Block UU Bien Nacido Chardonnay, beautiful tropical and citrus aromas are followed by a rich full mouthfeel and flavors of grapefruit, pineapple and mango--with notes of minerality and just a hint of toasty vanilla. Birght acidity beautifully balances the richness of the mouthfeel.

Monument is our flagship Pinot Noir, blended from the finest barrels from the best blocks on our estate vineyard. Cold winds and sandy soils over adobe hard pan limit root growth in these blocks and lend this wine a great intensity, heightened aromatics and firm structure. Barbara's Signature Collection Clone 667 Pinot Noir is selected from the premier Pinot Noir blocks within the vineyard and is a distinct expression of our Estate in Santa Maria Valley, California. The Santa Maria Valley Chardonnay is completely barrel fermented and goes through 100% malolactic fermentation with use of native yeasts. Bien Nacido Pinot Noir is Sandler's 8th from the 1973 planting in Block T. This is by far the oldest vines where Sandler sources fruit, and is getting to be some of the oldest Pinot Noir in California. Year in and year out, it produces Sandler's most popular Pinot. The 2017 Bien Nacido will be bottled in late February 2019.

Tasted as a barrel sample, the Chardonnay Block UU Bien Nacido Vineyard has outstanding potential with its pineapple, citrus, lime peel and seawater-like aromas and flavors flowing nicely to a medium-bodied, focused and racy style on the palate. Barrel-fermented and aged on its lees, it should drink nicely for 4-6 years after release.

Aromas of cherries, strawberries and blackberries, layered with hints of cola and caramel. This wine is intense and mouth-filling with flavors of cherry, crème de cassis and berry pie, complemented by supple acidity and firm tannins.
