Deep ruby red in color with intriguing aromas of sun-warmed blackberries, ripe plums, with hints of black licorice. A complexity of dark berry fruits unfold on the palate; blackberries and bing cherries along with dark chocolate flavors. Vanilla and cedar oak undertones on the mid-palate further enhance the wine. The overall impression is rich with refined tannins, firm acidity and explosive layers of ripe fruit.

Taking its name from the sea and sun – the two forces of nature that shape its exotic character – this wine is as dramatic as the place where it is sourced. With morning fog, bright sunshine and gusting winds, the Santa Lucia Highlands has an extended growing season, leading to the development of tropical aromas, lush fruit flavors and a vibrant acidity.

J. Lohr Vineyard Series Highlands Bench Pinot Noir has a lovely wild strawberry varietal character with a touch of sage and dried orange rind. The full palate is abound with fruit. It was only natural that we would make a Pinot Noir in addition to Chardonnay. The Santa Lucia Highlands is well-known as the perfect home for both these varietals. Grapes ripen slowly, enabling us to make wine of heightened complexity, with layers of aromas and flavors. We named Mer Soleil after the two forces of nature – the sea and sun – that shape this singular character, and they are every bit as powerful in creating our Pinot as our Chardonnay.

The aromas exhibit bright essences of red cherry and cranberry. On the palate we find pure, intense red fruit flavors and subtle spice notes, supported by a crisp refreshing finish. For this wine, we prefer to limit the amount of new oak barrels in order to feature the fruit expression of these special vineyards.

Hahn SLH Chardonnay greets the nose with citrus and stone fruits, followed with hints of ripe tropical fruit and vanilla. Garys’ Vineyard has been a superb source of Pinot Noir ever since the first crop in 1999. The entire vineyard is planted to the Pisoni Selection of Pinot Noir, a suitcase clone from Burgundy. We are fortunate to get fruit from two different sections of Garys’ Vineyard – one at the top of the vineyard and the other near the very bottom. These sections are planted on different rootstocks, which produces a much more complex and interesting Pinot Noir.

Layers of pear, apple and citrus, highlighted with a hint of vanilla. Refreshing acidity is complemented by the nuances of its French oak aging.

This elegant and opulent Pinot Noir features aromas of black cherry, violets, and leather. The palate reveals cherry, pomegranate, tea, white pepper, balanced with integrated oak character and a long finish.

Deep magenta in color, warm aromatics of roasted red peppercorn, clove, Chinese five spice and mustard powder emanate from the glass. With time, rich and savory notes of hoisin, dried beef and toasted sesame emerge along with hints of freshly tilled soil, baked orange, cherry blossom and rhubarb. Possessing an assertive and powerful mouthfeel, the wine demonstrates an intriguing depth of complexity balanced equally between spice, earth and fruit components.
