Chateau-Haut-Brion-Pessac-Leognan
Jean de Pontac began constituting the Haut-Brion vineyard, in the Graves region, in 1525. His descendants went on to produce “New French Claret”, the precursor of today’s great red wines. Their efforts enabled Arnaud III de Pontac to sell his wine under the estate’s name as early as 1660. It gained a fine reputation and enormous success in London. The first of the Bordeaux great growths was born! Haut-Brion’s history has been marked by many famous men: Count Joseph de Fumel (Field Marshal, Governor of the Province of Guyenne, and Mayor of Bordeaux), Talleyrand (Foreign Minister of Napoleon I, Emperor of France) and, more recently, C. Douglas Dillon (American ambassador to France and US Secretary of the Treasury during the Kennedy administration). In 1961, Haut-Brion was the first of the great growths to use stainless steel fermentation vats, and continues to be in the forefront of innovation thanks to the meticulous selection of the ideal clones for each grape variety used at the estate. Through the centuries, the owners and managers of Haut-Brion have been obsessed with perpetuating the château’s reputation for quality. Classified a First Growth in 1855, Haut-Brion has done everything possible ever since then to maintain its standing.

La-Chapelle-de-la-Mission-Haut-Brion
The La Chapelle de la Mission Haut-Brion is a blend of 45% Merlot, 31% Cabernet Franc and 24% Cabernet Sauvignon. It has a tightly wound bouquet at first with blackcurrant and hints of orange blossom lending a prettiness. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, a nice underbelly of classicism (emanating partly from the 8% vin de presse) underneath a veneer of ripe black fruit, easing down to a supple, fruity finish.

A deep purple colour. The nose is very ripe with iodine, macerated black cherries and blueberry with good definition. The palate is fresh on the entry with dense, tannic entry, very closed at the moment, good depth but fine delineation on the finish

Chateau-La-Mission-Haut-Brion
Chateau La Mission Haut Brion is not quite as old as Chateau Haut Brion. La Mission Haut Brion only dates back to the late 16th century. The property came into being after it was purchased by Jean de Pontac in 1533. Pontac was also the owner of what later became Chateau Haut Brion. Jean de Pontac was responsible for the birth of several of the best estates and vineyards in Bordeaux. Chateau La Mission Haut Brion and its Bordeaux wine vineyards became famous when Arnaut de Lastonnac and the sister of Jean de Pontac were married. In 1607, the estate changed hands. It was inherited by Ms. Olive de Lestonnac. Olive de Lestonnac eventually bequeathed the property to the Congregation of the Mission. This is where the vineyard earned its moniker. Even though the gifting was not popular with other members of the family, in 1664, Catherine de Mullet made the gift official. At that point in time, La Mission Haut Brion became the property of the Roman Catholic Church. In 1698, a small chapel was built in the vineyards. This chapel was known as Notre Dame de La Mission. 15 years later, in 1713, the official chateau was built on the property. The estate remained the hands of the Roman Catholic Church until it was repossessed during the French revolution and later sold at a public auction. In 1815, Chateau La Mission Haut Brion became the property of its first American owner, the Chiapelle family. At the time, the family was already involved in the Bordeaux wine trade. In fact, they knew about the business as they had managed a myriad of different estates including Chateau Cos dEstournel.

Blend: 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc "This second wine of Haut-Bailly is about 30% of the harvest. It is packed with blackberry and black plum fruits. The richness is contrasted by the firm structure at the back of the wine. Dark tannins and ripe acidity support the fruitiness. (RV) "- Wine Enthusiast

Intense and extensive aromatic spectrum. The freshness of the lemon and grapefruit zest, with delicate notes of passion fruits, is accompanied by subtle nuances of box, mentholated notes and hints of freshly cut hay. On the palate the wine is very well-balanced, concentrated in structure, revealing good acidity and a generous, full-flavoured fleshiness. The development of the aromas on the palate is characterised by a fruity freshness, which terminates in a long, lingering finish.
Domaine de Chevalier Blanc Bordeaux White

Domaine-de-Chevalier-Blanc-Bordeaux-White
One of the most consistent and greatest value wines of Bordeaux, we admit to a serious soft spot for the wines of Domaine de Chevalier. Blessed with the climate, terroir and capability to fashion both reds and whites of fabulous quality, DDC is a producer with a wonderful track record; whilst universally excellent vintages like 2005 and 2009 deliver incredible quality, it’s the ‘off-prime’ vintages which show the class of the estate, especially for the reds: their 2006 is staggeringly good and the 2007 scores the same as the legendary millennium vintage. The whites regularly score 95 or more from Robert Parker and at less than one fifth the price of Haut Brion Blanc, it’s an absolute steal – the epitome of quality dry white Bordeaux at a fabulous price.
