Ninety percent of the blend was barrel-fermented in French oak barrels, a third of them new, while the remainder was fermented at cool temperatures in stainless steel tanks. Eighty percent of the wine underwent malolactic fermentation. That combination of oak/stainless and partial ML has resulted in a wine that is fleshy and rich yet retains a nice freshness. The wine displays flavors of pear and pineapple, accented by some toasty oak.

Aromas of crushed cranberry, plum and red currant. The finish is long and luscious with hints of ripe fruit, vanilla and French oak.

Medium brown brick red color. Aromas and flavors of marinated beets and sour cherries, melted chocolate toffee, and mocha with a satiny, vibrant, dry-yet-fruity medium-to-full body and a complex, long finish manifesting touches of chocolate orange peels and strawberries, creme brulee, smoked nuts, and hint of caramelized bacon with well-integrated, fine tannins. A lush, fruity, hedonistic pinot that is sure to please.

Influenced by the cool climate of Monterey, the Jekel Riesling is a wine of balanced acidy and weight. Flavors of peaches and lemons linger well into the finish. This wine is medium-dry according to the International Riesling Foundation scale.

Brick red color. Inviting aromas of cherry, cassis, cola, anise, and boysenberry start the enjoyment of this Pinot Noir. With aeration, some hints of sage, blackberry, and orange zest add complexity. James Stokes was a British sailor who jumped ship in Monterey in 1833, passing himself off as a doctor with medicine stolen from the boat. Despite killing a significant number of patients, Stokes was appointed personal physician to Governor Jose Figueroa. Within a year, the governor was dead. Stokes’ sons confronted him over his crimes and he ingested poison, falling lifeless at their feet. The adobe home in which Stokes lived still stands and every so often a man dressed in 1800s garb is seen climbing the stairs and passing through walls. This is the legend of Stokes’ Ghost.
