Wine in Edna Valley

For three decades, we’ve crafted flavorful Chardonnay grapes from the Edna Valley into award-winning wine. Layers of white peach and apricot intertwine with notes of pineapple and brown spice. A lively acidity and supple, generous mouthfeel.

Citrus notes are complemented by tropical fruit flavors on the palate, while a balanced, crisp acidity leads to a lingering finish.

Nuances of rose petal, cola, and black cherry lead to flavors of fresh blackberry pie and a silky mouthfeel. A mouthwatering acidity and long finish.

Ripe blackberry flavors complemented by hints of cedar, anise and cocoa powder. A firm acidity and fine tannins create a long finish that lingers.

Brilliant garnet in color, the 2013 vintage of Bishop’s Peak Pinot Noir bursts with aromas of strawberry and raspberry complimented with subtle notes of earth and soil. This medium bodied wine has elegant flavors consistent with its aromas, soft tannins and refreshing acidity. Enjoy a glass with a wedge of Fontina cheese or garlic and herb roasted pork tenderloin.

Baileyana Rose of Pinot Noir was harvested at two levels of ripeness to preserve freshness and its elegant fruit flavor. This wine is light pink, almost salmon in color, with fruit flavors bursting from the glass, including watermelon, strawberry, peach and melon with hints of rose petal and red raspberry. The bright acidity creates a delightful freshness that makes this an ideal wine for the warmer months and a perfect year round complement to salads, seafood and any light dishes.

This is the fifth vintage of Edna Valley Pinot Noir that comes solely from estate grown fruit. The wine is quite concentrated in terms of color and flavor, no doubt a consequence of the ongoing drought. The wine has a deep ruby garnet color. The nose is abundant in blueberry and plum aromas, with hints of nutmeg spiciness from the French oak. It is medium bodied wine with impeccable balance, moderate acidity, very fine tannins, and a voluptuous rich finish.

Citrus notes of lemon curd and lime zest characterize this refreshing medium bodied chardonnay.

Made especially for cans, this wine is a blend of several grape varieties! As with all our tangent wines this is crisp and vibrant. Holds the equivalent of half a bottle of wine. Great for picnics, camping and the beach!

Dark ruby/light purple color. Nose shows roasted plums, juicy black cherries, some clove, cinnamon and sweet violets. On the palate, the wine is somehow both smooth and chewy at the same time, boasting tons of fruit (black cherries, blackberries, strawberry pie) velvety and smooth but rich. I love the clove, dark chocolate and sweet cola notes, but I also get some graphite and tobacco elements that add complexity. Delicious, open for business, but not a simple fruit bomb. Spends 10 months in 30% new French oak.

This 2012 Chardonnay delivers honey, toasted nuts, orange zest and a touch of limestone minerality on the nose. Zippy citrus notes, fresh acidity and an hint of salinity on the palate.

In its inaugural vintage, the Edna Valley Vineyard Rose offers delectable red fruit aromas of strawberry and raspberry with a hint of spice. This wine delights with a delicate salmon-pink hue that alludes to the juicy red flavors and a soft texture. A crisp acidity and silky smooth mouthfeel culminate in a lingering, mouthwatering finish.

The Peter Yealands Pinot Noir is a rich, silky wine with juicy ripe cherries and a lingering savoury finish.

Initially there is a hint of toasty oak from the barrel fermentation and aging, but it opens up the classic Edna Valley Chardonnay aroma descriptors of tropical fruit… mango and pineapple. The wine is rich in flavor and velvety in its textural elements, with just enough acidity to keep it lively on the palate which makes it a better pairing experience with food.

Our vineyards are a patchwork of isolated soil types that you may recognize as Reva, Lorraine, Seymour’s and Pandora (very much wines of a place). Between and in route to these well healed sites are vineyards that are not so obviously distinct. We have blended these disparate and ‘disenfranchised’ blocks into a single wine we call Patrina. Like the Gypsy trails from which Patrina derives its name, we hope these bottles lead you to some great merriment, or more. While the grapes for Patrina are raised with the same detail and attentiveness as the rest of our vineyards, and then fermented open top with indigenous yeast, gentle pump overs and a few punch downs once soft, it is bottled unfined and unfiltered after ‘just’ 22 months in barrel to preserve its youthful exuberance. All the density and concentration folks have come to expect from our reds with black and blue fruits, mineral notes, and flowers.
