Full and ripe, even a bit overripe, this rich and exuberant wine offers lots of black fruits and some raisin notes with raspberries and mulberries competing with those raisins. This 100% Garnacha offers a lovely perfume of spice box, mineral, and wild cherry. This perfectly balanced mix of flavors lends itself to an intensely fruity wine with loads of taste, a smooth texture, and a pure, fruit-filled finish. Old bush vines (50-70 years) of Garnacha planted on granitic sandy soils that are extremely poor in nutrients. These high altitude vineyards, at 400-600 meters, experience extreme diurnal shifts in temperature –scorching days and frigid nights. The grapes are destemmed and fermented with wild yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless steel.

Gaseous aromas of mulchy berry fruit, iodine, rubber and sulfur get this Tempranillo going in the wrong direction. Green, gummy flavors match the nose, while on the finish this is herbal tasting and medicinal, with weedy notes.

This wine tastes modern, with 15% Syrah added to the usual Grenache instead of Tempranillo. The result is a wine with spice-laden black fruits and a clean, medium-bodied finish.

A wonderful aromatic dry white wine. Hints of white peach, spring flowers and a textured peach element give this delightful white a definite more-ish character. It t is a great match to many seafood dishes, especially Spanish paella.

Cherry colour with terracotta hints. Intense aroma, with mature fruit notes, fine toasted touch and reduction features. In mouth, it is wide, expressive and persistent, with round and balanced tannins, and with an acid and fresh sensation, which makes it a wine with character and long future expectation.

This is a fruit bomb, so those not wanting flavor, or in search of wimpy wines need to consider a light beer. Deep ruby/plum purple, with loads of blueberry and black currant fruit, underlying crushed rock notes and some floral scents are all present in this remarkable wine. Calatayud is a fairly innocuous and rural region of Spain. As far as the eye can see the hills and plains are blanketed with head-pruned vineyards, primarily Garnacha. Just to the north of Calatayud is Campo de Borja, Navarra and Rioja Baja so this sea of Garnacha is a small part of a wider ocean. Much of the inexpensive and pleasurable Garnacha sold in the US comes from these regions in Spain and Eric Solomon was an early pioneer and proponent. Years ago while working on a project in Calatayud, Eric Solomon met Jean-Marc Lafage and Yolanda Diaz. Yolanda is a native of the region and knows the terruño of Calatayud better than anyone. Jean-Marc is the very talented winemaker and consultant from the Roussillon just across the border in France. Together they “discovered” a unique village in Calatayud, Atea. At 1000 meters above sea level it is the highest elevation village in the whole DO. Even more interesting is that the soil here is black schist, the same soil one can find in the Priorat and in Maury where Jean-Marc owns an estate by the name of Saint-Roch. This unique terroir and the old vines of Garnacha rooted in it, are the origins of Evodia.

With Valderba wines the owner and winemaker Inmaculada Ramón, a woman winemaker, wants to show in a very honest way the potential of the fruit cultivated in Zaragoza, Aragón. These are resulting in a very pleasant and drinkable wines. Wines come from our 60 hectares of family vineyards located in our property. The spirit of VALDERBA is based on the care of the vines from where we receive the most important part of the wine, HEALTHY GRAPES. We combine technology and traditional winemaking techniques, trying to reflect the most authentic expression of the terroir into the wines we produce.
