This is the white varietal of the Pinot Noir, which explains their physical similarities (leaves and grapes both). Also called the Clevner, it gives supple wines with a touch of acidity for freshness. The Pinot Blanc is used to make wines that are particularly well-balanced between roundness and acidity. They are found in the mid-range of Alsace wines, between dry wines such as the Sylvaner andRiesling and sweeter wines such as Gewurztraminer. The Pinot Blanc goes perfectly with white meats such as poultry, pheasant and pork, with fish and with any kind of egg dish. The wine is a clear, pale yellow with hints of green, depending on the lighting. The bouquet is fresh with fruity notes of apple and peach, embellished with a touch of floral aromas. On the palate the Pinot Blanc is instantly fresh with average acidity, making it a pleasant wine for any occasion.

Mount Sigolsheim, northwest of Colmar, was the high ground fought for in the battle of the “Colmar Pocket,” January 20 to February 9, 1945. On the summit is the French military necropolis commemorating this historic battle for one of the last regions occupied by German infantry. It took American and French forces three weeks in frigid temperatures to dislodge the German bridgehead. On the south-facing slope of this hill is the celebrated Grand Cru Mambourg. Records show that as early as the year 783, elegant wines of the present-day Mambourg were famous. The vineyard (61.85 hectares / 152.83 acres) enjoys optimum sunshine and scant rainfall. The soil here is lime-magnesium over calcareous and marl conglomerates that formed during the Tertiary period, 65 million to 1.6 million years ago.

The robe is a golden yellow, with light green reflections, of good intensity. The disk is bright, limpid, and transparent. The wine shows youth.The nose is frank, pleasant, of good intensity. We can perceive a dominance of sophisticated, fruity scents, yellow fruits, Mirabelle plum, quince, Golden apple, and a slight honey hint. Airing enhances the fruity character and reveals fine pastry hints, orange blossom. The ripeness and health of the grapes provide a superb offactory profile. Very pleasant.The onset in the mouth is dense, fleshy. It shows a mellow character. The alcohol support is balanced. The wine evolves on a sharp and edgy medium, marked by a sparkling note. The range of aromas reminds that of the nose, yellow fruits, Mirabelle plum, quince, Golden apple, honey, and a slight smoky hint. The finish has a beautiful length, 7-8 caudalies and a persistent vivacity.The balance of this wine is soft, rich, but it keeps a superb freshness. The terroir expresses itself beautifully and refines the structure.
