LAN produces as consistent a value crianza as anyone in Rioja. Their 2010 shows spicy mixed berry fruits, with perhaps a plumper quality than usual, but given how delicious the wine is there is nothing wrong with that! As usual, this is another tasty effort from these folks; for $10 it's absolutely a no brainer—very good value Rioja. 100% Tempranillo.

Flaco, made with Spain’s signature Tempranillo grape, means “dude” in English. In the words of The Savvy Lush, Flaco “is the best goof-proof, budget-friendly wine out there. Spain is the largest producer of Tempranillo. These thick-skinned grapes are grown in regions that have hot days followed by cool evenings. This creates a concentrated, yet balanced flavor.” It is produced by Compañía de Vinos del Atlántico in the Demoninación de Origen (DO) of Vinos de Madrid. Flaco shows the complexity of a serious wine for the price of a song! The luscious fruit and soft texture make it a perfect wine for everyday drinking. Madrid is not only the capital of Spain but also one of the country's most interesting wine growing regions. The outskirts of this great royal city are full of old Tempranillo vines. Most Spaniards do not know that Madrid makes wine, and therefore don't know the incredible values that Madrid showcases at the present time. Madrid is the great unknown.

100% Tempranillo ABOUT THE BRAND Founded in 1896 Federico Paternina establishes this winery on a site featuring cellars dug in the 16 th century in Ollauri, Rioja Alta. Bodegas Paternina was the first major wine company in Rioja, the most influential, dynamic and economically powerful. Its origins go back to Eduardo de Paternina, father of Federico and Marqués de Terán one of the pioneers of modern viticulture in Rioja at the behest of his close friend the Baron de Rothschild, who years before had acquired the Château Brane Mouton. INTERESTING FACTS Hemingway´s first stop was Logroño, where the bull fighter Ordóñez participated in a fair held on the occasion of the Harvest Festival. During those days, Hemingway enjoyed in La Rioja with his friend some unforgettable days of wine, bulls and party. TERROIR AND VINIFICATION PROCESS Selected vineyards of Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa. Clay calcareous soils, located on slopes with good drainage and with good solar exposure. Harvest made manually in small boxes and careful selection of the best grapes in the winery. After a careful fermentation under temperatures not exceeding 28 ºC, the wine is kept in vats for stabilization. The wine is aged in medium toast American oak barrels followed by ageing in bottle for a combined period of 36 months. TASTING NOTE Deep bright ruby red colour with garnet rim. Very elegant on the nose with delicate cooked red fruit aromas, spice and smoke from the ageing in barrel On the palate it has ripe red fruit flavours with hints of vainilla and toast. Well balanced, velvety, complex with smooth tannins and long finish Perfect with red meats, venison and cured cheeses. Recommended serving temperature 17°C.

Vineyards 100% Tempranillo from our Mayorita, Rebollar and Bardal vineyards, as well as selected plots in El Palo, Rodezno and Alto del Rey, Labastida. These vineyards are located at an altitude of 500-600 metres (1600-2000 ft) above sea level, planted in chalky-clay soils more than 40 years ago. Winemaking and ageing After carefully selecting the grapes to be harvested, we placed the clusters in boxes that we immediately transported to the winery in refrigerated vehicles at a temperature of 14 °C (57 °F). The Bordeaux model was applied, destemming, crushing and vatting the grapes in tanks, where they underwent alcoholic and malolactic fermentation. The wine was aged for two years in American oak barrels manufactured in-house; the first year in new oak and the second in barrels averaging three years in age. The wine was manually racked four times by the light of a candle. Bottled in June 2017. Tasting Lively, medium depth, garnet–red with an intense pink rim. High aromatic intensity with dominating ripe fruit: raspberries, red cherries, wild strawberries and red currants set out against a balsamic background of vanilla, toasted caramel, biscuits, coffee and sweet mints. In the mouth, you can enjoy good acidity, great freshness and balance and mild, friendly tannins. Aromatic harmony persists through the aftertaste, with notes of red fruit jam, prunes, coffee, vanilla and caramel. Pairing Viña Alberdi is characterised by a notable food-pairing versatility. It is an ideal companion to appetisers, snacks and barbecues, perfect with rice, pastas and stews, and great with lightly-grilled meat and fish.

Crafted from 100% premium Tempranillo and a passionate winemaking philosophy. The result is a fresh and lively fruit expression of the variety, that is undeniably Campo Viejo.

Vivid purple. Ripe boysenberry and blueberry aromas and an undercurrent of mocha on the nose, with candied licorice and vanilla qualities coming up with air. Lush, weighty and round, showing good thrust to its dark berry liqueur and cocoa flavors. Finishes creamy, round and long, with soft tannins and building notes of plum and dark chocolate

Deep garnet red. Intense aromas of cranberries, very ripe red fruit, prunes and dried apricots. Touches of licorice and vanilla, cinnamon and resin. Structured, broad and flavorful on the palate Produced from a plot of organically grown grapes. Mantible Ecológico, the name of this plot, is a 5-hectare parcel on the Viña Lanciano Estate.

The wine is dense, voluminous, and full on the palate. Silky, with present but very subtle tannins.

No expense has been spared at Bodegas Roda in trying to produce the finest wines in this famous region. Huge investment in both vineyard and winery coupled with incredibly high standards produce a modern and sexy wine which has critics cooing. This Reserva is produced from some very old, extremely low yielding vines. 2006 was a strong vintage in Rioja, and the Reserva has plenty of weight and fine-grained tannins, and an immense nose of incense and spice. Drink now or over the next 3-5 years.

Oak Matured

Viña Almate is the name of the first vineyard that Alfredo planted and gives the name to his bodega and to Alfredo’s entry-level Duero wine. This cuvee is made from fruit sourced from various plots of Tinto Fino (Tempranillo), of varying vine ages located, in Valtiendas at 1,000 meters elevation, as well as Peñafiel, at 700 meters. The wine is 80% whole cluster fermented in steel vat with 15-20 days of maceration, and raised for 4 months in neutral French oak with one racking: unfined, unfiltered, and very low SO2. The result is a very pure and classic medium to full bodied Duero wine with notes of red fruits, spice, flowers, and minerals; a great wine to pair with grilled and roasted meats.

Organically and biodynamically farmed and made from our estate-grown grapes. Punctum Sin Sulfitos Tempranillo is a wine with no sulfites added. Nice cherry colour with a violet shade. Red berries and cherry bouquet on the nose. Fresh and harmonious with long finish on the palate.
