Sayuri, which means "little lily" in Japanese, is appropriately named for its soft floral notes and its iconic cherry blossom adorned pink bottle. These cues not only embody the delicateness of this sake, but reflect the gracefulness of japan. Hints of white grape and elements of cherry blossom create a lush, creamy sake. This Junmai Nigori sake is named after Hanako, or “Flower Maiden”, the most famous Japanese koi fish that lived for 226 years in the snowy, icy waters at the foot of Japan’s Mt. Ontake. Gekkeikan Nigori is a rough-filtered Junmai-shu. By definition Nigori means ‘cloudy’ and this style of sake is thicker and creamier in texture, with a milk-like appearance. The ‘cloudiness’ comes from the rice sediment which remains in the sake after it has been passed through a special coarse-mesh filter. The tradition of rough-filtering sakes has been used in Japan for many centuries. Style: Characteristically sweet with a creamy medium-body. Hints of honey and tropical fruit, with a long finish.
