Carmenere

Saved from extinction, Chile’s revival of the Carmenere is something to celebrate. This wine comes to your glass from a 19th century family-run vineyard in Colchagua Valley. Its violet hue and blow-your-mind nose of plum and spice is nothing compared to its deliciously afternoonifed taste.

Intense violet in color with ripe aromas of blackberries and warm spice. Full-bodied and fruit-forward with plum, cherry and a hint of smoke. Smooth tannins and good structure create perfect balance and a powerful finish with notes of vanilla. Try Root: 1 Carmenere with hearty chili, pork stew or barbeque ribs. Carménère, originally from Bordeaux is now only cultivated in significant quantities in Chile. Characterized by the presence of overtly spicy notes Carménère is the latest ripening of all of our red grapes. Aged for 10 months in french oak barrels before release. On the nose heady notes of cedar, bacon fat, and graphite with just a hint of fresh lavender are all in evidence. In the mouth, an initial attack of black cherry, sweet tobacco and cinnamon gives way to just a touch of earthiness and ripe bell pepper.

These warm sensations on the nose are enhanced by rich spiciness, with nuances of pepper and cloves and mineral notes. Well balanced acidity gives the wine a considerable structure.

Black currant and blackberry aromas open up to reveal bright strawberry and cherry notes, and a subtle spicy character. A touch of vanilla oak complements the fruit and the ripe, sweet finish. Pair with savory dishes, like earthy stews; spicy dishes, like braised short ribs, chile con carne, Texas ribs, or steak au poivre

This wine has an expressive, complex, fresh aroma characterized by spicy notes such as clove and pepper, as well as subtle vegetal notes such as red pepper. These aromas are apparent due to the fact that the vineyards are situated very close to the river, with its cool waters, and also due to the summer afternoons, whereby fresh breezes travel up through the valley from the pacific ocean to the Andes mountain range.This wine stands out for its unique red ruby color and black fruit aromas; in mouth it is well rounded and rich in flavors, where the figs notes and wild fruits, together with delicate spices aromas, are in perfect harmony. For this reason, on the palate the wine is round, smooth, full-bodied, and with ripe tannins. Black fruit aromas are present, such as blackcurrant, blackberry and plum. Flavorsome, balanced and with good persistence.
