Viognier is a white grape variety indigenous to the Rhône Valley of France. We are so taken with this beautifully aromatic varietal that Zaca Mesa have dedicated over 20 acres of our vineyard to Viognier. The Zaca Mesa Viognier has aromas of honeysuckle and white peach. The palate has notes of ripe apricot, lemon-lime, melon, lychee and a lingering touch of minerality, a signature characteristic of their vineyard.
Our wines are made from sustainably farmed grapes that are estate grown, produced and bottled. With over 40 years of grape growing experience in the Santa Ynez Valley, our winemaking and vineyard teams meticulously farm our vineyard to focus on terroir-driven wines. We began growing Rhône varieties in 1978 when we were the first to plant Syrah in Santa Barbara County. Since then, we have learned that grape varieties planted in the Rhône Valley of France are best suited to our estate.
Our 2010 Syrah displays bright blackberry, wild-berry, flowers, mocha, pepper and our signature sage spice. The silky finish lingers from the ripe tannins with a touch of smoky oak. A traditional pairing for this wine is a rack of lamb marinated in rosemary and garlic.
As a family-owned winery with a rich history in Santa Barbara County, as well as historical roots that date back to America’s early days, family and history have remained integral parts of Zaca Mesa’s story. Honoring our past inspired us to create Clydesdale, a 100% Syrah paying homage to the Cushman family’s historical middle name, Clydesdale, which traces back generations.
