The Verdelho varietal is nowadays one of the most interesting white varietals from the southern plains of Portugal. This vintage fermented in small stainless steel tanks under controlled temperature followed by 3 months of maturation.
Private Selection comes from a careful selection of Aragonez, Trincadeira, Alicante Bouschet and Touriga Nacional varieties from our old vines located in Vidigueira, Portugal. This wine aged for 12 months in French oak barrels. With a dark ruby color it shows ripe matured fruit aromas and chocolate notes and lingering spice. The palate reveals the typical freshness of the mineral soils in Vidigueira.
A blend of Trincadeira - 30%, Aragones - 30%, Tinta Gross - 20%, and Alicante Bouschet - 20%, with concentrated fruit flavors and 12 months of ageing in barrels gives this wine an intense and elegant taste.
This wine was made from selected Trincadeira, Aragonez and Alicante Bouschet grapes. The wine expresses the true nature of the terroir where it originates.
The Alfrocheiro Miguel Maria Laureano was aged for 18 months in 70% new light-toast French oak. It comes in at 14.5% alcohol. This might be the most typical of the Alfrocheiros in this lineup. It has elegance and silky texture, with red fruits underneath. It has plenty of power too, showing the intensity that most of the others do. This is very tight and unevolved, really hard to drink now. It has to have a year or two of cellaring (maybe more), at which point we will see where we are. In the meanwhile, let's start here. I won't be surprised if this becomes the best of the group when they all have settled down.
Notes of black berries into jam, mint, spices and chocolate. Soft, with striking and balanced acidity, fruit compote and spice aromas. Very long mouth order, based on solid tannins, well marked but round and elegant.
