Layer Cake Rosé of Pinot Noir is perfectly pale pink and reminiscent of rose gold liquefied in the glass. Aromas of passion fruit, pink grapefruit and dried rose petals mingle with the slightest hint of dark chocolate and cranberry. On the palate, tropical flavors of guava and crushed loquat harmonize with field-ripened strawberries, picked fresh for the farmers market. The vibrant acidity is layered with pink grapefruit zest, rhubarb and pineapple that culminates in a bone dry, refreshing finish.
This is a very creamy and rich Chardonnay. It has bright and sassy fruit - juicy pear flavors with butter pie-crust and toasted butterscotch on a long smooth finish.
The nose is reminiscent of Meyer lemons, preserved then diced up later in the year for seasoning in a meal, wet stones and Kaffir lime blossoms waft in and out as well. The wine builds in body and texture as it sits in your mouth. Layers of Kaffir lime, guava, and pineapple pour in at first, and then the light creamy texture of whipped lemon curd fills in the flavor palette. The finish is clean and crisp, lingering enough to make you want another sip... go ahead, we'll make more next year, don't worry.
This Bourbon Barrel Cabernet Sauvignon both truly expresses the depth and complexity of the grape as well as the additional vanilla, toasty oak influence of the bourbon and charred barrel that result from 3 months aging in these barrels. The result is a wine that is dense, rich, and jammed with scents of blackberry and vanilla and a long, mouth coating finish complimented by a hint of sweetness.
The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon jumps from the glass with aromas of ripe Bing cherries and blackberries plus cedar and dark, rich layers of maduro tobacco. Deep flavors of spice-infused plums, toasty oak, and espresso fill the mouth, with a rich, creamy layered texture, and powerful structure. Flavors of chocolate and black currant continue through the long, lingering finish.
Layer Cake SEA OF STONES RED WINE MENDOZA – ARGENTINA | 2012 Winemaker Notes All of the grapes we use are allowed to ripen thoroughly on the vine, a key to the exceptional quality we achieve. Each cluster, once harvested by hand, is then de-stemmed and sorted – also by hand. Each varietal lot is treated as its own wine, then when each lot is ready, the Sea of Stones blend is assembled to create a wine that emulates the best of what the Sea of Stones Estate has to offer. Vineyard Notes Sea of Stones is our home property in Mendoza; the winery is on the estate and all of the Layer Cake Malbec is made on the estate as well. The estate is adjacent to the Mendoza River in Argentina, terrain strikingly similar to that of Chateauneuf du Pape in the Rhône Valley. During the post ice age melt, the Mendoza River swelled to over 5 miles wide, as the melt water slowed, it left behind a layer of cobblestones, gravel and soil hundreds of feet deep. The entire ground surface of the area is cobblestones as far as the eye can see, a Sea of Stones. In addition to stunning Malbec, we also grow Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Petit Verdot, Bonarda and Charbono on the estate. Tasting Notes The Layer Cake Sea of Stones red blend is extremely dense and concentrated. Opaque purple, almost black in color, the aroma is full of ripe black fruit, grilled bread, pencil lead, wet stones, lavender, blueberry pie, and black cherry. On the palate there is layer upon layer of savory fruit, spice notes, espresso, and dark chocolate as well as rich, creamy texture. The aromas and flavors carry on long after the wine is gone from your mouth, the finish taunting you to have another sip.
